Parish and Village Community

The Pfarr- und Dorffest Merching is the most important summer gathering for the Catholic parish community and the village community. The organizer is the Pfarreiengemeinschaft Merching (Merching Parish Association), which organizes the festival together with local clubs, the fire department, and the altar servers. The festival grounds are the idyllic Klostergarten (monastery garden) in Merching – in case of rain, the celebration moves to the community's Mehrzweckhalle (multi-purpose hall).

A Sunday in June

The festival traditionally begins with a festive parish service in the morning, followed by a "Frühschoppen" (morning pint), a communal lunch, and a family program. Clubs provide catering with classic delicacies from the Swabian region: Bratwurst (grilled sausage), Steaks, Coffee and Cake from the members' kitchens. A brass band provides the musical accompaniment, and children can enjoy play activities in the monastery garden.

Merching in the Wittelsbacher Land

Merching is a municipality with around 2,700 inhabitants in the Aichach-Friedberg district, about 30 kilometers west of Munich and 15 kilometers east of Augsburg. The municipality is located in the so-called Wittelsbacher Land, a historically Bavarian region with a rich tradition of customs. The Pfarr- und Dorffest is part of a long series of Catholic summer festivals that revitalize the Wittelsbacher Land every year.
