The Third District Harvest Festival in Ogrosen

When the harvest crowns are carried through the village street of Ogrosen on the weekend of 19th and 20th September 2026, the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district will experience its third District Harvest Festival. The event, held alternately between municipalities, is a kind of district-wide harvest thanksgiving, where a different village provides the stage for the entire OSL region each year. In 2026, the choice falls on Ogrosen, a district of Vetschau — a community of 230 souls in the southwest Spreewald, which has been preparing for the festival since 2025.

Open Farms and Experiential Agriculture

The concept of the District Harvest Festival deliberately focuses on authenticity: instead of show stages and fast-food stalls, Ogrosen farms open their gates, showcasing machinery, animals, and cultivation areas, explaining the cycles of modern agriculture to visitors. Experiential stations for children, educational trails, demonstrations of old and new harvesting technology, and of course, tasting regional specialities — bread from a wood-fired oven, honey from Ogrosen meadows, sausage and cheese from OSL direct marketing — form the core of the festival.

Two Competitions Frame the Weekend

Two competitions give the 2026 festival an additional boost: The Harvest Crown competition “Most Beautiful Harvest Crown for Ogrosen” invites clubs, schools, and village communities from the entire OSL district to submit braided harvest crowns. The most beautiful crown will be awarded, and all submitted works will decorate the village during the festival weekend. The Photo competition “Village Children – At Home Everywhere” seeks portrait photos of growing up in the Brandenburg countryside — from playing in the barn to summer evenings on the farm. A jury will award prizes, and an exhibition of the best submissions will accompany the festival.

Parade and Tractor Ride

On Sunday, the traditional festival parade forms the emotional heart of the weekend. Decorated floats, harvest crowns, dance and traditional costume groups, regional clubs, and a long procession of historical and modern tractors will pass through Ogrosen. A registered tractor ride — attended by collectors and enthusiasts of old Lanz, Famulus, or MTS tractors from all over the region — is one of the most photogenic programme points of the day.

Ogrosen in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz District

Ogrosen is located on the southwestern edge of the Spreewald, belonging to the town of Vetschau/Spreewald and thus to the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. Its rural location, far from motorways and traffic hubs, makes the District Harvest Festival a journey — those arriving from Cottbus, Senftenberg, or Calau will drive through the typical Lusatian landscape with forests, meadows, small lakes, and villages. Festival admission is free; the festival is organised by the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district and the town of Vetschau, together with Antenne Brandenburg, and funded through Brandenburg-EU development funds and ProAgro.
