Open-air concert series on the open-air stage in Schwerin Castle Garden
The Freilichtbühne Schlossgarten is Schwerin's premier open-air concert stage. It is located in the historic Schlossgarten (Castle Garden) on Lake Schwerin – a setting that provides a special ambiance for the summer concert series. The stage was built in 1954/55 and thoroughly renovated in 2003; it offers seating for up to 2,600 and standing room for up to 4,999. More than two dozen concerts take place here throughout the summer months.
The appeal of the concert summer lies in its diversity. The 2026 program ranges from Schlager (Nino de Angelo, Howard Carpendale) to pop and rock (SILLY with Julia Neigel, The BossHoss, Clueso, Wincent Weiss, OMD, Alvaro Soler, Nena) and themed concerts such as “The Music of Hans Zimmer & Others,” “Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon,” and the “Highland Saga – Celtic Night.” The Mecklenburg State Philharmonic Orchestra Schwerin also performs on the open-air stage with its picnic concert “MeckProms.” This creates a summer that offers something for every audience.
Schwerin surprises with a remarkable density of open-air concerts for its size during the summer — spread across several venues like the Freilichtbühne, the Pappelpark stage, and the inner courtyard of the castle. The Freilichtbühne Schlossgarten is the central venue for the big names. Its lakeside location, the UNESCO World Heritage ensemble of the castle and residences in close proximity, and the summer atmosphere make every concert evening an experience.
Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is a magnet for concertgoers from the entire region during the summer. The concert summer on the open-air stage complements the city's cultural offerings — from the Castle Festival to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and city festivals — making the Schlossgarten the musical heart of Schwerin's summer.
The concert season at the Freilichtbühne Schlossgarten runs from mid-June to early September. Over two dozen events feature renowned artists from pop, rock, Schlager, and classical music on the open-air stage in the Castle Garden by Lake Schwerin.
In addition to live acts, themed concerts such as “The Music of Hans Zimmer & Others,” “Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon,” and the “Highland Saga – Celtic Night” are on the program. The picnic concert “MeckProms” by the Mecklenburg State Philharmonic Orchestra also performs on the stage.
