Petzow Palace Garden — A Landscape Park by a Schinkel Student

Petzow is a district of Werder (Havel) in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, located directly on Schwielowsee — one of the most beautiful lakes in the Brandenburg Havel Lakes chain. Petzow Palace was built between 1825 and 1840 according to plans by Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, in the style of English Tudor Gothic. The associated palace garden — a landscape park in the style of Peter Joseph Lenné — connects the palace, lake, and village church into a classic Brandenburg ensemble. In summer, the park is a preferred destination for visitors from Berlin and Potsdam.

Jazz in the Garden — Concert in a Romantic Setting

"Jazz in the Garden" is the small, intimate concert series of the palace garden. It starts at noon, 12:05 PM — an unusual but charming time. You sit in the park, listen to live jazz under old trees, with Schwielowsee in the background and Petzow Palace as a backdrop. It's brunch culture without the brunch cliché, a Sunday concert without Sunday pathos. The acts are regional and national jazz ensembles — from classic swing quartets to Brazilian jazz to contemporary European jazz.

A Weekend in Werder and Petzow

If you want to combine the concerts with a weekend in Werder, the region offers a lot: the Werder Blossom Festival (April-May), Werder's fruit wine cultivation, the Petzow cherry plantation, boat trips on Schwielowsee, hiking and cycling trails around Werder. Caputh — another historically significant district with Einstein's summer house — is located opposite on the lake. Petzow itself is a quiet, picturesque village with just 600 inhabitants, where Brandenburg landscape culture is found in concentrated form.

In addition to the two jazz concerts on June 13 and 27, Petzow Palace Garden is hosting other summer formats: a reading on June 20, 2026, and further concert and reading dates spread throughout the summer months. The park is normally freely accessible; the concerts take place in a defined area of the garden and some require tickets.
