Open-air Pentecost concert with the Brandenburg Police Orchestra in the vineyard
The Pentecost Concert on the Werderaner Wachtelberg is one of Brandenburg's most unique classical music experiences. The venue is the Wachtelberg in Werder (Havel) — one of Germany's northernmost vineyards and home to the winery of the same name. On a small stage amidst the rows of vines, with a panoramic view of the Havel River, the island town of Werder, and the Havel lakes, the Brandenburg Police Orchestra will give its traditional open-air concert on Pentecost Sunday, June 9, 2026, starting at 3 PM.
The Brandenburg Police Orchestra, conducted by Christian Köhler, is one of the most renowned professional orchestras in the state of Brandenburg. It regularly performs at official events, open-air concerts, and charity concerts. In Werder, the orchestra will be accompanied by Potsdam soprano Ute Beckert — both artists perform together regularly. The motto for 2026 is "Music is in the Air" — a program featuring classical open-air favorites, light classical music, and festive summer tunes.
The vineyard on the Wachtelberg in Werder (Havel), with its good 6 hectares, is one of the largest vineyards in Brandenburg. Wine has been cultivated here since the Middle Ages, until the region's climate was considered too cool after the Little Ice Age. Professional viticulture on the Wachtelberg was only revived in the 1980s — today, the winery is among the northernmost commercial wineries in Germany. Müller-Thurgau, Saphira, Solaris, and Cabaret Noir grow on the south-facing slopes above the Havel River.
Werder (Havel) is the town of the island old town and the famous Blossom Festival. The Wachtelberg is located in the Glindow district on the southern outskirts and is easily accessible by bus or car. The Pentecost Concert is one of Brandenburg's few classical open-airs with a direct vineyard atmosphere — and with free admission, it is one of the most impressive Pentecost events in the region.
Visitors should bring blankets and folding chairs; many picnic on the meadows around the stage. The winery will serve its current vintage, and coffee and cake will be available on site. Families are very welcome — those who arrive on time will secure a seat with a view of both the Havel River and the stage.
