Culinary Open-Air Festival in the historic Schwerin Palace Garden
GourmetGarten is Schwerin's culinary open-air festival. The venue is the historic Palace Garden on Lake Schwerin – a baroque park that transforms into what the city calls the 'most beautiful garden restaurant in the city' for three days. The festival brings together Schwerin's best chefs, vintners from Franconia and Saxony, and regional manufacturers and craft businesses. Specialties from across the spectrum of gourmet cuisine are served.
The culinary offerings are diverse: game from Michelsen butcher shop, tarte flambée, freshly roasted coffee, wines, craft beer, and cider. Tastings of whisky, beer, and cigars complement the program for those who want to delve deeper into individual culinary worlds. GourmetGarten focuses on quality and regional origin – many of the vendors come from Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Music is an integral part of GourmetGarten. Live bands play in the afternoon – the so-called 'Löffelmusik' (spoon music) – while a jazz brunch with a brass band invites guests to their tables in the morning. This transforms the festival into more than just a market: a convivial summer afternoon where food, drink, and music come together. The park, with its picnic tables and relaxation areas, invites visitors to linger.
Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, along with its palace, palace garden, and residential ensemble, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024. GourmetGarten uses this backdrop as a stage for regional culinary culture. For the city, the festival is a fixed summer event and a showcase for the region's cuisine and producers.
GourmetGarten 2026 marks the 14th edition of the culinary open-air festival. For three days, the historic Palace Garden on Lake Schwerin transforms into what the city calls Schwerin's most beautiful garden restaurant. Chefs, vintners, and manufacturers present their specialties.
Dishes served include game, tarte flambée, roasted coffee, wines, craft beer, and cider, along with tastings of whisky, beer, and cigars. Live music is performed in the afternoon, and a jazz brunch with a brass band takes place in the morning.
