A Castle with a Long History
The Renaissance Castle Ampfurth, located in the Ampfurth district of the town of Oschersleben (Bode), is one of the most distinctive castles in the Magdeburg Börde region. Its roots date back to the 12th century; it was expanded into a representative Renaissance complex in the 16th century, and in the 19th century, a telegraph station was established in the castle tower, which has since been restored and is climbable. This very mix of medieval, Renaissance, and industrial eras makes the castle the ideal backdrop for a knight's festival.
What You'll Experience Over These Three Days
The organizer Carnica Spectaculi, one of the best-known medieval event organizers in Central Germany, will bring over 50 performers to the castle grounds in May: knights with swords and lances, a camp by the reenactment group Midgards Feuerbund, craftsmen with blacksmith, potter, and weaving stalls, minstrels, jugglers, and fire acrobats. For families, there will be a children's knight school, archery, axe and knife throwing, a crossbow station, a historic carousel, and a small Ferris wheel. Those who come in costume will receive an admission discount — knights in full armour get in for free.
Magdeburg Börde and Börde District
Ampfurth is located in the Börde district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — one of Germany's most fertile agricultural regions, characterized by black soil, sugar beet fields, and a multitude of smaller castles and moated manor houses. Oschersleben, with its motorsport tradition (Motorsport Arena), and the nearby Hexenstieg trail in the Harz mountains are the region's tourist anchors. The Knight's Festival at Ampfurth Castle is one of the most beautiful family folk festivals in this landscape.
