Three-day wine festival by the Klepsau Winzerkapelle — Tauberfranken meets Hohenlohe in the Krautheim district
At the beginning of September, the wine village of Klepsau — a district of Krautheim — invites you to its traditional wine days. The organizer is the Winzerkapelle Klepsau e.V., the local music association that has organized this weekend for decades. Here you will find a typical German winegrowers' festival in the countryside — manageable, cordial, with a genuine regional connection to the vines of Tauberfranken and the location between Hohenlohe-Kreis and Main-Tauber-Kreis.
The Klepsau district of Krautheim is a classic Franconian-influenced wine village. It is located in the Hohenlohekreis (AGS 08126), but directly on the border with Main-Tauber-Kreis — geographically and culturally, Klepsau belongs to the Tauberfranken wine-growing region, which is part of the Baden winegrowing tradition, although administratively it is Württemberg. The vines grow on the surrounding shell limestone slopes, primarily Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Tauberschwarz, and Schwarzriesling — the typical grape varieties of the region.
The festival takes place in the center of Klepsau — on the festival grounds near the village community center / music hall, depending on the weather, in the festival tent or outdoors. Long tables, beer garden benches, stage, bar — the typical setup of a winegrowers' festival. The atmosphere is familiar: Klepsau has around 350 inhabitants, everyone knows each other, many clubs help out, the mood is cordial. As a guest, you are not anonymous festival-goers here, but part of a small village community during the festival.
The opening on Friday evening usually features an opening concert by the Klepsau Winzerkapelle, followed by a cover band in the evening. On Saturday, the festival opens in the afternoon, in the evening a cover band or party band plays, and the festival tent fills up until late at night. Sunday begins with a Frühschoppen concert (often with an invited brass band from the region), followed by lunch with Swabian-Franconian specialties, and in the afternoon, coffee, cake, and a final performance by the Winzerkapelle before the festival concludes.
The focus is on the Tauberfranken wines from local vintners and cooperatives — Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Riesling, Tauberschwarz, and Schwarzriesling. Accompanied by Swabian-Franconian festival foods — Maultaschen, Rote Wurst, Schäufele, Bauernbratwurst, Saitenwürste, salads, regional cheeses. If you like open Schoppen (the typical drinking measure in Franconia is a quarter-liter Schoppen instead of a half-liter Maß), this is the place for you.
The small town of Krautheim, with around 4,800 inhabitants (incl. districts), is located in the northeastern Hohenlohekreis, on the Jagst river — one of the most beautiful river valleys in the Hohenlohe region. Krautheim Castle and the historic old town are worth seeing, as is the Jagst Cycle Path stage destination. Visitors to the Klepsau Wine Days often combine it with a tour of the picturesque Taubertal valley — Bad Mergentheim, Weikersheim, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber are not far away.
The 2026 Klepsau Wine Days, as every year, will focus on Tauberfranken wines. The Klepsau Winzerkapelle invites you to the village center from September 4th to 6th. The opening on Friday evening will feature the opening concert by the Winzerkapelle, on Saturday evening a dance band takes over, and Sunday begins with Frühschoppen and ends with the festival winding down in the late afternoon.
The regional wines come from Klepsau vintners and the Tauberfranken cooperative. You can try Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Riesling, Tauberschwarz, and Schwarzriesling — in the typical Franconian Schoppen size (0.25 l), as is customary in this wine region.
Free admission. Open Schoppen wine (0.25 l) from €3.50, Maß beer €4.50, Rote Wurst €4, Maultaschen with salad €9, cake €2.50.
