About Jagsttalwiesenwanderung
Jagsttalwiesenwanderung — edition 2026
2026 Edition — Extended to Schöntal for the first time
The 2026 Jagsttalwiesenwanderung is expanding for the first time: Instead of the usual Bächlingen–Berlichingen route, the municipality of Schöntal will be included for the first time in 2026, with seven additional stations around the monastery grounds alone. The route is thus longer and more diverse than ever before. In total, the event features 19 main stations with catering and program, as well as 14 additional stops — spread across the 70 kilometers.
The castle festival in Krautheim takes place under the motto "KaiserManöver 1909" — a reenactment from the Wilhelminian era. Falconry demonstrations, archery, and canoe trips on the Jagst complement the program. The five municipalities mobilize around 1,000 volunteers.

Jagsttalwiesenwanderung — A 70-kilometer walking stage for nature experiences
When the meadows around the Jagst river in Hohenlohe begin to bloom in early May, one of Southern Germany's largest nature experience events invites you to participate. On the weekend of May 9th and 10th, 2026, five Hohenlohe municipalities — Langenburg, Mulfingen, Dörzbach, Krautheim, and newly added Schöntal — will turn an approximately 70-kilometer route from Bächlingen to Berlichingen into a walking stage. Almost 200 stations, well over 1,000 volunteers, hundreds of clubs and artists — all this will be an experience for the whole family for two days. You can hike, take the shuttle bus, or come by bike and decide for yourself how many stations you want to experience.
Almost 200 stations with nature tours, culture, and culinary delights
The range of stations is enormous: Guided wild herb walks, lectures by beekeepers at apiaries, geology tours through shell limestone rock formations, orchid walks in protected meadow valleys, beaver demonstrations on renatured streams, monastery visits in Schöntal. In between, there's folk music, theater performances, art exhibitions in barns, and craft workshops for children. And of course, Hohenlohe specialties: Boeuf de Hohenlohe, regional wines, apple ciders, fruit brandies, homemade Maultaschen, game roasts, and fresh bread from wood-fired ovens.
Krautheim Castle Festival — KaiserManöver 1909
Krautheim offers a special highlight with a simultaneous castle festival at Krautheim Castle. Under the motto "KaiserManöver 1909", reenactors will stage a historic maneuver from the Wilhelminian era — with uniforms, horse-drawn carriages, and ceremonial cannon salvos. In addition, there will be demonstrations by falconers with eagles and buzzards, archery for visitors, canoe trips on the Jagst, and a medieval market with crafts, food, and live music. The castle festival is a self-contained mini-event within the larger Jagsttalwiesenwanderung.
Shuttle bus and route marking
The shuttle buses run every 30 minutes to 34 stations along the route — you can get on and off as you please. The route follows the Jagst Cultural Hiking Trail and is marked with orange butterfly symbols. The section between stations 9 and 10 is accessible by wheelchair and stroller. Accessible toilets are marked in the program booklet.
Krautheim, Hohenlohe, and the Jagst
The small town of Krautheim, with just under 5,000 inhabitants, is located in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg, at the transition from the Jagst to the Bauland region. Krautheim Castle, dating back to the 12th century, sits enthroned on a rocky spur above the Jagst — a spectacular backdrop for any castle festival. The Hohenlohe region is one of the most agriculturally rich and culinarily interesting regions in Southern Germany — the Jagsttalwiesenwanderung is its calling card.
