Three days of street festival in one of the liveliest alleys of Nuremberg's Old Town
For years, Klaragasse has been one of the most distinctive streets in Nuremberg's city center. Located directly by the Klarakirche (St. Clara's Church), it connects creative shops, record stores, bars, cafés, and small galleries into a mini-scene stretching from the adjacent museum quarter and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum to the Künstlerhaus (artists' house). Once a year, the alley is completely closed to traffic for a weekend and transformed into a festival mile.
The Klaragassenfest (officially also "Klaragassen-Kärwa") picks up on the Franconian tradition of the Kirchweih (church consecration festival): beer tapping, bratwurst grilling, toasting together, and hours of sitting outside the establishments. However, here, tradition mixes with indie pop, folk, hip-hop, and live acts on several small stages. Local venues like BrotZeit, Einfachso, Wacht am Rhein, or Original Bar participate, along with pop-up stalls from local associations.
Klaragasse is located in the heart of the southern Old Town (State of Bavaria, City of Nuremberg), just a few steps from the main train station. Those who want to experience Nuremberg beyond the main market routes will find a relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere here on the festival weekend, with locals, students, and culture enthusiasts. Admission is free.
