About Klangfarben Festival

The Klangfarben Festival in Regensburg is one of the most established world music festivals in Eastern Bavaria. For three days at the end of July, the historic Haidplatz transforms into a 'Market of Cultures', while international artists present their home sounds on stage in the courtyard of the Thon-Dittmer-Palais. Afro-groove, Balkan folk, Malian blues, Mariachi, and much more make the festival an acoustic journey around the world in Regensburg's Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria).

Klangfarben: An Acoustic Journey Around the World in Regensburg

Since 2010, the Klangfarben Festival has brought the diversity of world music to Regensburg's Old Town. What began as a small summer festival has become a firm fixture in Bavaria's festival landscape. The 17th edition in 2026 will once again demonstrate how music transcends borders.

Two Venues in the Heart of the Old Town

The evening concerts take place in the picturesque courtyard of the Thon-Dittmer-Palais – an intimate open-air atmosphere with a historic backdrop. During the day, Haidplatz, one of the central squares of Regensburg's Old Town, becomes a 'Market of Cultures' with arts and crafts, culinary specialties from around the world, and the 'MarktMusik' stage for regional emerging artists.

International Programme Lineup

Over the years, the festival has featured acts from Mali, Brazil, the Balkans, Japan, Greece, and many other countries. Afro-groove, Sephardic songs, Fado, Mariachi, Japanese drumming, and Austrian soul have been part of the programme, as have contemporary fusion and crossover projects.

Regensburg as a World Heritage Backdrop

The city of Regensburg, district capital of the Upper Palatinate, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006. With around 160,000 inhabitants, it is a cultural centre of Eastern Bavaria and provides an extraordinary stage for the festival. Its location between the Danube, St. Peter's Cathedral, and the Stone Bridge makes the festival experience a unique urban summer event.

A Dedicated Team

The festival is supported by the association Klangfarben e.V., which is committed to intercultural exchange and musical diversity in Regensburg. Numerous volunteers and cultural partners from the city contribute to its success.
