About Lucrezia-Markt

The Lucrezia-Markt in Regensburg is considered one of the oldest and most consistently sustainably managed craftsmen's Christmas markets in Bavaria. On Kohlenmarkt and Haidplatz, right in the heart of the World Heritage Old Town, selected artisans meet organic-certified catering, a cultural stage program, and a concept that deliberately avoids mass-produced goods. The market will celebrate 40 years of history in 2026.

Crafts instead of mass-produced goods

The Lucrezia-Markt has been an integral part of Regensburg's Advent season since the mid-1980s. Unlike many other Christmas markets, it consistently sees itself as a pure craftsmen's market: exhibitors are not mass dealers, but artisans who have designed and produced their own works. The range includes ceramics, jewelry, and textiles, as well as woodwork, glass, felt, paper, printmaking, and fine arts.

Two squares, two atmospheres

The market extends over two of the Old Town's central squares: Kohlenmarkt and Haidplatz. Both locations are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Regensburg and, with their narrow Gothic and Baroque buildings, create the market's unmistakable setting. The main stage is traditionally located on Haidplatz, while the stalls on Kohlenmarkt are spread out among the historic patrician houses.

Two stages and cultural program

A continuous cultural program runs on two stages, featuring everything from classical brass ensembles to folk music, singer-songwriters, performances, and readings. A separate program flyer is published each year at the start of the market and is also available online.

Sustainability as a program

The Lucrezia-Markt is managed sustainably. The catering is organic-certified, with vegan and vegetarian options consistently available, and reusable tableware is standard. This approach distinguishes the market from many traditional Christmas markets and makes it a popular destination for visitors seeking a quieter, aesthetically rich Christmas market.

Lucrezia-Markt — edition 2026

The 40th edition of the Lucrezia-Markt will take place from November 27 to December 23, 2026, on Kohlenmarkt and Haidplatz in Regensburg's Old Town. It is open Sunday to Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM. A cultural program runs on two stages alongside the stalls of selected artisans. The catering is organic-certified with consistently vegan and vegetarian options.

In 2026, the Lucrezia-Markt celebrates its 40th anniversary and returns to Kohlenmarkt and Haidplatz for about four weeks. The market opens on Friday, November 27, 2026, and runs until December 23, 2026. It is open daily – Sunday to Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, Friday and Saturday until 9 PM.

The main stage on Haidplatz features a daily changing cultural program, with a second stage on Kohlenmarkt. Exhibitors apply through Lucrezia-Markt GmbH; only artisans who have designed and produced their own works are selected. The catering is organic-certified, with consistently vegan and vegetarian offerings.
