About Kulturpflaster
Kulturpflaster — edition 2026
The Regensburger Kulturpflaster 2026 takes place, as always, on the last weekend of the school holidays — from September 11th to 13th. The Old Town transforms into an open stage for international street circus. At eight venues between Neupfarrplatz, Haidplatz, and other squares of the World Heritage Old Town, acrobats, jugglers, high-wire artists, magicians, and clowns from around the world perform. Each venue has its own hourly program, allowing visitors to wander between squares or stay at one location. Admission is free — payment is made into the artists' hats after each show. The organizer is Mischkultur e.V.; the full program will be published on kulturpflaster.org as well as on Facebook and Instagram.

Free admission — hat concert principle: at the end of each show, the audience puts whatever they wish into the artists' hat.
On Site
Program flyers available at the Tourist Information office at the Old Town Hall and at the performance venues. Food and drink available throughout the Old Town. Stroller-friendly, many acts are explicitly tailored for families.
Street Circus for the Whole Family
For over a decade, the Kulturpflaster Regensburg has been a firm fixture in the Bavarian festival calendar — and one of the city's most beautiful calling cards. Every two years, on a September weekend, international street artists spread across the squares of Regensburg's Old Town and showcase their skills: top-class acrobatics, death-defying juggling, artistic magic, subtle mime performances, and loud clowning. The organizer is the volunteer association Mischkultur e.V.
Hat Concert — and Free for All
The Kulturpflaster operates on the classic street art principle: free admission, with the hat going around at the end of the show. Everyone gives what they felt the performance was worth. This concept makes the festival an accessible cultural offering, where even people with no prior experience of theatre or circus can simply come by, watch, and stay — or move on to the next square.
Eight Performance Venues in the Old Town
The central squares of the historic city center become open-air stages: Neupfarrplatz, Haidplatz, and six other locations between the Cathedral, the Stone Bridge, and the Danube. Several acts perform in rotation at each venue, allowing visitors to stroll between locations or choose a spot and follow the hourly program there. In total, dozens of acts perform over one festival weekend.
International Program
The curated selection brings international street circus stars to Regensburg — France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain are regularly represented, but acts from Australia, Argentina, and Israel have also been guests in previous years. In addition, there is a German section every year with established comedians, clowns, and acrobatics ensembles.
Regensburg as a Stage
Regensburg, an independent city in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria, is considered one of the most beautiful old towns in Central Europe with its Romanesque Stone Bridge and largely preserved medieval architecture — a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006. During the Kulturpflaster, this backdrop takes on an additional dimension: acrobats on the Danube side, magicians in front of the Old Town Hall, mimes on Cathedral Square. An ideal symbiosis of art and city.
