75th edition of the Franconian spring Volksfest on the Bleichwasen
Kitzingen am Main, the seat of the district of the same name in Lower Franconia, is a traditional wine town on the edge of the Maindreieck. The Spring Festival on the Bleichwasen has been running since 1951 — 2026 marks its 75th edition. Over the years, the festival has established itself as the most important spring event in the Lower Franconian Volksfest calendar, well ahead of the later Mainfestival in the summer.
The festival grounds "Am Bleichwasen" are located in the Kitzingen district of Etwashausen on the eastern bank of the Main. Ample free parking is available directly at the festival grounds. The festival tent forms the center, surrounded by rides and market stalls.
The rides range from the children's carousel and baby plane for the little ones, to classics like bumper cars, bungee trampolines, and "Disco-Rider," up to modern high-speed attractions. Shooting galleries, grabber machines, and lottery stalls complement the offerings — a typical Franconian amusement park of medium size, manageable, but deliberately family-oriented.
The weekly rhythm follows a well-rehearsed dramaturgy: On the opening day (usually the first Saturday), every ride costs €2 per person between 2 PM and 4 PM. Wednesdays feature Children's Day with reduced rates, and Thursdays offer a Happy Hour. A dedicated Family Day provides discounted prices for all rides simultaneously.
Kitzingen is conveniently located on the Nuremberg–Würzburg railway line and the A3 motorway. The wine town, with its characteristic leaning Falterturm (tilted tower), forms the economic and cultural center of a district heavily influenced by viticulture. The Spring Festival fits this profile — a blend of regional down-to-earthness, family-friendliness, and moderate modernity.
The 2026 edition marks a milestone: the 75th Spring Festival, which has been held as a spring Volksfest on the Bleichwasen since 1951. The organizer Uebel & Sachs Volksfestunternehmen coordinates the program in close cooperation with the City of Kitzingen.
The complete festival program, including the bands in the festival tent, will be published by the City of Kitzingen on stadt-kitzingen.de in the weeks leading up to the festival.
