Late Kirmes — Its Own Identity

The Kirmes Niederbexbach is one of the last village Kirmes of the year in Saarland. While Frankenholz (early September), Höchen (mid-September), and Bexbach-Mitte (mid-September) are long gone, Niederbexbach only takes place at the beginning of November — on the second Sunday of November plus the following Monday.

Late Autumn Atmosphere

The late date gives the Kirmes its own special mood. It's cooler, often darker — and that's precisely why the festival tent becomes the focal point. Draft beer, bratwurst, homemade soups, and the first mulled wine of the year make the Niederbexbach Kirmes a transitional festival between autumn and Advent. Nevertheless, there are carousels and stalls in the village square — although the focus is clearly on the indoor program.

Kirmes Chain in Bexbach

Bexbach maintains a remarkable tradition: six districts, six Kirmes, spread over half the year from July to November. Anyone wanting to experience Saarland village life can plan a Kirmes tour here: Oberbexbach (July), Kleinottweiler (August), Frankenholz (September), Höchen (September), Bexbach-Mitte (September), Niederbexbach (November) — the finale.

Niederbexbach in the Saarpfalz District

With just under 1,500 inhabitants, Niederbexbach is a rather small district of the town of Bexbach in the Saarpfalz district. The Kirmes here is one of the most important community events of the year and is maintained by the local associations with clearly discernible pride.
