About Kirwa Vorra

The Kirchweih in Vorra is one of the most beautiful village Kirchweihen in the Nürnberger Land. In the picturesque castle courtyard, the Kirwapaare (Kirchweih couples) and the entire community celebrate genuine Franconian tradition for three days – without carousels, but with all the more fun. From the raising of the Kirwabaum (Kirchweih tree) to the Vuuglsuppn (bird soup) and the festive dance on Kirwasonntag (Kirchweih Sunday), old customs are kept alive here by the local youth. The Kirwa is organized by the Kirwastammtisch Vorra 1989 e.V. A festival for young and old with live music, Franconian cuisine, and cool beer.

A Kirchweih with Heart

The Kirchweih Vorra – in Franconian dialect »Kirwa« – has been a firm highlight in the event calendar of the municipality of Vorra in the Nürnberger Land district for decades. It is supported by the Kirwastammtisch Vorra 1989 e.V., which passes on the local customs to the next generation. The celebration takes place in the atmospheric castle courtyard in the center of the village.

Franconian Kirwa Customs

Franconian customs are at the heart of the event: The Kirwaboum (Kirchweih lads) and Kirwamadla (Kirchweih lasses) jointly erect the decorated Kirwabaum (Kirchweih tree), the »Vuuglsuppn« (bird soup) is served, and on Kirwasonntag (Kirchweih Sunday), the traditional »Austanzen« (final dance) takes place, where the last dancing couple wins the bouquet. These customs make the Vorraer Kirwa an authentic piece of Franconian folk culture – consciously without large amusement rides, but with all the more conviviality.

Three-Day Program

The festival spans a long weekend: Friday evening opening with live music, Saturday party band in the castle courtyard, Sunday festive church service, joint lunch, coffee and cake, brass music in the afternoon, and finally the Austanzen. For culinary delights, volunteers provide Franconian specialties and beer.

Vorra and the Nürnberger Land Region

Vorra is located in the idyllic Pegnitz valley in the Nürnberger Land district in the Free State of Bavaria, nestled between the wooded heights of the Hersbrucker Alb. Here, the Kirwa is more than just a festival – it is a lived village community and a meeting point for former and current residents from the entire region.
