Traditional Franconian village Kirchweih in the picturesque castle courtyard of Vorra in the Nürnberger Land region
The Kirchweih Vorra – in Franconian dialect »Kirwa« – has been a firm highlight in the event calendar of the municipality of Vorra in the Nürnberger Land district for decades. It is supported by the Kirwastammtisch Vorra 1989 e.V., which passes on the local customs to the next generation. The celebration takes place in the atmospheric castle courtyard in the center of the village.
Franconian customs are at the heart of the event: The Kirwaboum (Kirchweih lads) and Kirwamadla (Kirchweih lasses) jointly erect the decorated Kirwabaum (Kirchweih tree), the »Vuuglsuppn« (bird soup) is served, and on Kirwasonntag (Kirchweih Sunday), the traditional »Austanzen« (final dance) takes place, where the last dancing couple wins the bouquet. These customs make the Vorraer Kirwa an authentic piece of Franconian folk culture – consciously without large amusement rides, but with all the more conviviality.
The festival spans a long weekend: Friday evening opening with live music, Saturday party band in the castle courtyard, Sunday festive church service, joint lunch, coffee and cake, brass music in the afternoon, and finally the Austanzen. For culinary delights, volunteers provide Franconian specialties and beer.
Vorra is located in the idyllic Pegnitz valley in the Nürnberger Land district in the Free State of Bavaria, nestled between the wooded heights of the Hersbrucker Alb. Here, the Kirwa is more than just a festival – it is a lived village community and a meeting point for former and current residents from the entire region.
The Kirwastammtisch Vorra 1989 e.V. invites you to the Kirwa 2026 from Friday, June 19th, to Sunday, June 21st, in the castle courtyard. The opening on Friday evening with live music will kick off the event. On Saturday, a party band will provide the atmosphere. Kirwasonntag begins with a festive church service, followed by a joint lunch, coffee and cake, brass music in the afternoon, and the traditional Austanzen, where the last remaining Kirwapaar wins the bouquet. Franconian specialties and cool beer complete the festival.
By train on the Nuremberg–Hersbruck–Vorra line to Vorra station, then a few minutes' walk to the castle courtyard. By car via the B14 into the Pegnitz valley.
Admission to the Kirwa is free. Food and drinks are available on site.
