About Kerwa Unsleben
Kerwa Unsleben — edition 2026
The municipality of Unsleben publishes its annual event dates in a PDF list (2026_UN_Terminliste.pdf, approx. 247 KB), which can be accessed on the official website. The Kirchweih is listed as a recurring festival there, with the exact date typically falling in October.
As with every Franconian village Kerwa, Sunday is the highlight of the festival week: festive church service, Frühschoppen, lunch from the club kitchen, live music in the afternoon, and a cosy get-together. Kerwa in the Hohe Rhön
Unsleben is located in the Rhön-Grabfeld district, in the state of Bavaria, in the northern Rhön region between Bad Neustadt an der Saale and Mellrichstadt. The region borders Hesse and Thuringia — it is part of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and belongs to the sparsely populated, tradition-conscious areas of Lower Franconia.
A Village Kerwa, Supported by Club Life
The Kerwa in Unsleben, like everywhere in the Franconian region, is jointly organised by the local clubs — the parish community, the volunteer fire brigade, sports clubs, and music clubs. Spread over a weekend, you can typically expect:
- Festive church service for the patron saint's day
- Early morning pint (Frühschoppen) in the festival tent or inn hall
- Franconian delicacies: Bratwurst, Sauerbraten, Sauerkraut, apple wines, and Rhön beer
- Live music with regional bands
- Dancing and socialising late into the night
VG Heustreu — Administrative Community with Three Municipalities
Unsleben is part of the Heustreu administrative community, which includes Heustreu itself and Hollstadt in addition to Unsleben. The Rhön-Grabfeld region is famous for its hiking trails, the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve, and the numerous traditional festivals that shape the summer and autumn calendar every year.
Region and Stay
Visitors to the Unsleben Kerwa can combine their stay with a hike in the Hohe Rhön (Wasserkuppe, Heidelstein, Schwarzes Moor), a visit to Bad Neustadt an der Saale, or a trip across the Thuringian border to Meiningen.
