Dorfwoche Rieseby

A Tradition from the Schwansen Region

Rieseby is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernrode district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located between Eckernförde and Kappeln, at the transition from the fertile geest to the Schwansen peninsula. The Dorfwoche has been a firm fixture in the summer program of the approximately 2,000-inhabitant community for decades and is organized by the Dorfwochenausschuss Rieseby e.V.

Four Days of Pure Club Life

The Dorfwoche involves the entire club life of Rieseby: the rifle club, fire brigade, sports club, local DRK chapter, regional shanty choirs, and the model building club each contribute their highlights. Thursday traditionally kicks off with a maritime musical opening — typically featuring a performance by a local shanty choir, conjuring the typical atmosphere of the Schwansen coast with songs of harbor and sea.

Sports Saturday and Model Exhibition

Saturday is all about sports: competitions, skill games, and interactive stations for children and adults fill the sports field. In parallel, the model exhibition opens — enthusiasts display historical ship models, model railways, tractors, and vintage car miniatures in the festival tent. The evening is celebrated with live music and cold beer in the region.

Sunday Buffet at the DRK

The festive conclusion is the Dorfwoche Sunday: the DRK Rieseby operates its traditional salad buffet with pea soup, accompanied by coffee, homemade cake, and live entertainment. Families, clubs, and guests from the region meet in the village square; the entire proceeds benefit club activities.
