For four days every early summer, Rieseby on the Schwansen peninsula transforms into a single village festival. The Dorfwoche offers a varied program of shanty concerts, Sports Saturday, a model exhibition, and a communal Sunday meal: the DRK traditionally serves its famous pea soup and salad buffet, the Sylter Shanty Choir or other guest choirs sing to a convivial audience, and on Sunday, the Dorfwochenausschuss committee provides the festive finale with bockwurst, cake stand, and live music. Anyone wanting to experience authentic Schleswig-Holstein between the Schlei and Eckernförde Bay will find it here.

The Dorfwoche Rieseby 2026 runs from June 4th to 7th and offers the usual program of shanty concert, Sports Saturday, model exhibition, and DRK Sunday buffet. Four days of Schwansen tradition between the Schlei and Eckernförde Bay.

In June 2026, the Dorfwoche Rieseby will take place from Thursday, June 4th to Sunday, June 7th, 2026. As in previous years, the program is jointly organized by Rieseby's clubs and volunteers, from the opening evening with a shanty concert to the traditional DRK buffet on Sunday.

While the exact program items and band names will only be announced a few weeks before the event via the community website www.rieseby.de and village notice boards, the Dorfwoche follows the proven pattern of club evening, sports, exhibition, and family Sunday.

Getting There

Rieseby is located between Eckernförde (approx. 15 km south) and Kappeln (approx. 15 km north) on the B203 federal road. Rieseby can be reached by train on the Kiel–Flensburg line (Rieseby station). Parking is available on the club grounds.

A Tradition from the Schwansen Region

Rieseby is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernrode district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located between Eckernförde and Kappeln, at the transition from the fertile geest to the Schwansen peninsula. The Dorfwoche has been a firm fixture in the summer program of the approximately 2,000-inhabitant community for decades and is organized by the Dorfwochenausschuss Rieseby e.V.

Four Days of Pure Club Life

The Dorfwoche involves the entire club life of Rieseby: the rifle club, fire brigade, sports club, local DRK chapter, regional shanty choirs, and the model building club each contribute their highlights. Thursday traditionally kicks off with a maritime musical opening — typically featuring a performance by a local shanty choir, conjuring the typical atmosphere of the Schwansen coast with songs of harbor and sea.

Sports Saturday and Model Exhibition

Saturday is all about sports: competitions, skill games, and interactive stations for children and adults fill the sports field. In parallel, the model exhibition opens — enthusiasts display historical ship models, model railways, tractors, and vintage car miniatures in the festival tent. The evening is celebrated with live music and cold beer in the region.

Sunday Buffet at the DRK

The festive conclusion is the Dorfwoche Sunday: the DRK Rieseby operates its traditional salad buffet with pea soup, accompanied by coffee, homemade cake, and live entertainment. Families, clubs, and guests from the region meet in the village square; the entire proceeds benefit club activities.
