Traditional Schützenfest on the last weekend of April — April 25 and 26, 2026
The "Gut Ziel" Ambühren Marksmen's Club (Schützenverein e.V.) is deeply rooted in the Ambühren district of Cloppenburg. Its Schützenfest is one of the earliest of the season in the Cloppenburg district and is traditionally held on the last weekend of April — in 2026, this means April 25 and 26. The club name "Gut Ziel" (Good Aim) says it all: the king's shoot is all about precision, concentration, and accuracy.
The "An den Ambührener Tannen" shooting grounds are a classic heathland shooting venue — festival tent, shooting range, grandstand, all framed by pine trees. This is where the marksmen in uniform assemble, where the king's shoot takes place, and where the entire club life celebrates. Throughout the year, the grounds serve as a meeting point for shooting practice and, in April, become the stage for the grand festival.
In 2026, the 338nd shot was fired — and with it, Matthias Südbeck was proclaimed the new king. This numerical rhetoric is part of the club's tradition: a new king every year, a new number each year, continuing the unbroken history of the club. This continuity, often spanning generations of a family, is the heart of the marksmen's club identity.
As is the case everywhere in the marksmen's club tradition, relationships between clubs are important. At the 2026 Ambühren Schützenfest, the marksmen's clubs from Nutteln, Varrelbusch, and Vahren-Stapelfeld are participating as guest clubs — they will join the parade and form the festive escort with their flag bearers. These mutual visits strengthen the cohesion of the marksmen's family in the western Oldenburg Münsterland region.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the marksmen's club in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
"An den Ambührener Tannen" shooting grounds, Ambühren district of Cloppenburg. Take the A1 motorway, exit Cloppenburg. Parking available in the vicinity.
Admission fees apply for dance evenings on-site. The parade and morning pint (Frühschoppen) are freely accessible.
As a season-opening Schützenfest in the Cloppenburg district, the date is particularly worthwhile for marksmen's enthusiasts. In late April, the heath is already in bloom — a beautiful route for your journey.
