A Village Festival That Carries the Village
Drosa, a small district of the municipality Osternienburger Land in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, has something many places in Saxony-Anhalt envy: an active heritage association that has been committed to village life since 2006 under the name Wir für Drosa e.V.. Every year in June, the association provides the structure for the traditional Kinder- und Heimatfest (Children's and Heritage Festival), which has long been valued far beyond the village.
The Heimatfest is one of those village festivals where you can directly feel the strength of rural club culture: no professional agencies organize here; neighbors, parents, and schoolchildren pitch in together. Setting up, cooking, serving, erecting the stage, inflating the bouncy castle – all done in-house. The result is an authentic festival that also thinks modern: in 2026, for example, a large Public Viewing will be set up in the festival tent for the Football World Cup.
Three Days of Program
Friday, as always, opens with a DJ and bar, followed by a long disco night in the festival tent. On Saturday, Joe Eimer und die Skrupellosen will play with their mix of rock and singer-songwriter style, and later DJ Locke will take over. Sunday is dedicated to the family: a parade in the morning, a children's program in the afternoon, and a relaxed conclusion in the evening. When the World Cup matches Germany vs. Ivory Coast are on, the festival tent will become a stadium.
Drosa and Osternienburger Land
Drosa is located in the flatlands between Aken (Elbe) and Köthen, nestled in the nature reserve around the Köthener Wasserberge. Visitors to the Heimatfest should take time for the surroundings: the neighboring town of Köthen with its Bach heritage (Johann Sebastian Bach worked here from 1717 to 1723), the Wörlitz Gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Romanesque monastery church Hecklingen are all easily accessible. Those seeking an authentic encounter with village life in Saxony-Anhalt will find it in Drosa.
