The Obermarkt as a Worms carnival stage

The Worms Obermarkt is the central square in the historic city centre, framed by the cathedral, city-centre retail and gastronomy. For the street carnival, it is equipped with a large stage, catering stands and a wide area for the celebrating revellers. The acoustics of the square, the connection to the pedestrian zone and the proximity to numerous Worms venues make it the perfect place for a multi-hour street carnival format.

Worms carnival societies on one stage

What distinguishes Spass uff de Gass is the concentrated presence of the Worms club landscape. The Worms Carneval-Gesellschaft Liederkranz 1875 is one of the oldest carnival clubs in Rheinhessen. The Worms Narrhalla 1840, the Griwwelbisser, the Prinzengarde Gloria 02, the WCC 1974 and the Hausfrauen-Verein present guard dances, show dances, Bütten speeches and party music. Between performances, the session presidents of the clubs moderate the program and create transitions to the broad atmosphere on the square.

Worms Hausfrauen-Verein — a Worms speciality

A Worms speciality is the Hausfrauen-Verein, which has its own stage presence at Spass uff de Gass. It stands for the female tradition in the Worms carnival and provides special accents with its own show and singing contributions.

Stage program until 5 PM and transition to the Worms pub carnival

The stage program ends around 5:00 PM, but the carnival hustle and bustle in the city centre continues: the Worms venues, bars and club premises invite to pub carnival and Hausball (house ball). So Spass uff de Gass forms the great common prelude, which is followed by a long, decentralized carnival evening in Worms.

Safety concept and city

The organizer is the Kultur und Veranstaltungs GmbH Worms, a subsidiary of the City of Worms, which also organizes the Backfischfest, the Worms Kulturnacht and other major events. For Spass uff de Gass, a safety concept applies with a glass ban, entry checks at heavily frequented sections and the presence of police and public order office. The City of Worms asks visitors to travel by train or bus if possible, as the city centre in the Obermarkt area is traffic-restricted.
