The Kirchweih in Moggendorf is one of the spring Kirchweihen in the northern Franconian Switzerland and is held every year at the end of May by the Welkendorf-Moggendorf Volunteer Fire Department on the festival grounds in the middle of the village. For two days, the small village of the municipality of Aufseß (administrative association Hollfeld) in the district of Bayreuth celebrates a classic Franconian village festival: Kirchweih church service, beer garden operation, festival service on Sunday, children's entertainment, and free admission for all guests.

The Kirchweih Moggendorf 2026 will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, at the Moggendorf festival grounds. The Welkendorf-Moggendorf Volunteer Fire Department invites you to the Kirchweih church service, beer garden operation, festival service, and children's entertainment. Free admission on both days — a classic Franconian village festival in the northern Franconian Switzerland.

At the end of May, Moggendorf will once again celebrate its traditional Kirchweih. The Welkendorf-Moggendorf Volunteer Fire Department is organizing the festival and providing a classic program of devotion, beer, music, and children's games.

The festival grounds are located in the middle of the village and are well-protected even in changeable May weather. Admission is free on both days — you only pay the service staff for food and drinks.

Getting There

By car via Hollfeld in the direction of Aufseß, then follow signs to Moggendorf. Approx. 30 minutes from Bayreuth, approx. 45 minutes from Bamberg. Public transport is limited in the region — it's best to come by car or bicycle via the cycle paths of Franconian Switzerland.

Real Franconian Kerwa between Aufseß and Hollfeld

Moggendorf is one of those tiny villages in Franconian Switzerland where the Kirchweih is still celebrated as it was a hundred years ago: without admission, without fuss, but with brass music, Franconian beer, and the whole village at the festival grounds. The festival is organizationally part of the municipality of Aufseß in the district of Bayreuth (Upper Franconia) and is located in the administrative association of Hollfeld. The Welkendorf-Moggendorf Volunteer Fire Department is responsible, organizing the Kerwa at the end of May for decades and ensuring the typical, warm atmosphere.

A Weekend for Community and Tradition

The event kicks off on Saturday with the Kirchweih church service at 5:30 PM — a short service outdoors or in the village chapel, depending on the weather. Afterwards, the beer garden on the festival grounds opens, and the celebration continues into the night. On Sunday, the festival service at 2:00 PM is the focus, followed by the actual festival and children's entertainment with games, sweets, and small competitions for the youngest. Admission is free on both days.

Franconian Switzerland: The Right Destination Around

Moggendorf is located in the middle of the Franconian Switzerland nature park, one of Bavaria's most famous hiking areas. Visitors to the Kirchweih can ideally combine it with a hike in the Aufseßtal valley, a visit to the four Aufseß breweries (Aufseß is considered the village with the highest brewery density in the world), or a tour of the Unter- and Oberaufseß castles. In May, the meadows are in full bloom, the rocks glow, and the region is not yet overcrowded.
