Tip
The erection of the pole on Saturday and the Betzenaustanzen on Monday are the highlights of the customs. A walk to the fortified church of St. Georg in the historic village center is worthwhile.
Kärwa in the Knoblauchsland
The Kirchweih Kraftshof is the annual Kärwa of the Nuremberg district of Kraftshof, located in the Knoblauchsland – the traditional vegetable-growing region in the north of the Middle Franconian major city of Nuremberg. It is considered the last Kirchweih in Nuremberg North of the year, thus concluding the Franconian Kärwa season in the region.
Four Days of Customs
Celebrations take place around the cozy Kärwa-Platz on Schiestlstraße, on the edge of Kraftshof next to the playground and the Ski-Club Knoblauchsland. Highlights include the beer tapping with competition on Friday, fetching and erecting the pole on Saturday, the festive church service and the grand parade on Sunday, and on Monday, the Frühschoppen (morning pint) with a company Olympics, the Betzenaustanzen, and the "Kirchweihbeerdigung" (Kirchweih funeral).
Betzentanz in Costume
The emotional conclusion on Monday is the Betzentanz at the Kärwabaum: The three chairmen of the "Kärwaboum" (Kirchweih lads) and the Kärwamädchen (Kirchweih girls) dance in traditional Franconian costume until the music suddenly stops. It is the central element of the Kärwa's closing and the highlight of the customs.
Tradition on the Outskirts of Nuremberg
Supported by the Kärwaboum and the Kraftshofer Bund, the Kirchweih Kraftshof combines village customs with its location in the urban area. The historic village center with the fortified church of St. Georg provides a special setting for the Kärwa – an event firmly anchored in Nuremberg's Kirchweih calendar.
