Two-day open-air festival on the outskirts of Kempten with Saltatio Mortis, Heavysaurus, and Jamaram
Kempten, the largest city in Bavarian Allgäu and, with almost 70,000 inhabitants, the most important independent city in the Swabia administrative region, is home to the bigBOX ALLGÄU — one of the largest event halls in Southern Germany. Directly next to the hall is the open-air grounds on Kotterner Straße, which hosts rock, pop, and metal acts every summer. In 2026, the bigBOX ALLGÄU Open Air will take place on July 24th and 25th with three major program highlights.
On Friday, July 24th, 2026, Saltatio Mortis will perform at the Kempten Open Air as part of their current »Burgentour – Staub und Schatten« tour. The Karlsruhe-based band, a staple in medieval rock for over 25 years, known for their bagpipe riffs and danceable rock anthems, is one of the most successful acts in the genre. Hits like »Loki«, »Wachstum über alles«, and live classics from their recent tour are expected.
Saturday, July 25th, 2026, starts family-friendly: At 12:00 PM, Heavysaurus, the Finnish-German dino-metal band for children, will perform their costumed heavy metal concert with interactive choreography. Starting at 6:30 PM, the evening event opens with Jamaram as the headliner (show start 7:30 PM). The Munich-based reggae band celebrates over 20 years of stage presence with their »Welcome to Arunga Tour 2026«, blending reggae, global club sounds, and urban grooves.
The open-air grounds are located about a 15-minute walk from Kempten's main train station. It offers space for around 4,000 visitors, is accessible with dedicated wheelchair spaces, free companion tickets, and accessible restrooms. The show goes on in case of rain — rain ponchos are available on-site for €2.50.
With the bigBOX Open Air, Kempten positions itself as an open-air destination in the Allgäu region — situated between the major festivals in the Munich area and the classic summer events on Lake Constance. The double billing of medieval rock, family metal, and reggae appeals to a broad audience of Allgäu festival summer fans.
This year's bigBOX open-air series combines medieval rock, children's metal, and reggae on the open-air grounds behind the Kempten concert hall. On Friday, Saltatio Mortis takes center stage — a live program from their current tour featuring classics from 25 years of band history. On Saturday, the family concert with Heavysaurus opens at 12:00 PM, and Jamaram takes over the main stage from 7:30 PM.
