The bigBOX ALLGÄU Open Air is Kempten's annual summer open-air event on the edge of the Allgäu district capital. In 2026, the open-air grounds behind the bigBOX ALLGÄU event hall will be transformed into a festival stage from July 24th to 25th with Saltatio Mortis as part of their »Burgentour – Staub & Schatten«, the children's metal band Heavysaurus, and the reggae-infused Jamaram show. Open Air 2026 with Three Acts Over Two Days

This year's bigBOX open-air series combines medieval rock, children's metal, and reggae on the open-air grounds behind the Kempten concert hall. On Friday, Saltatio Mortis takes center stage — a live program from their current tour featuring classics from 25 years of band history. On Saturday, the family concert with Heavysaurus opens at 12:00 PM, and Jamaram takes over the main stage from 7:30 PM.

Getting There

15-minute walk from Kempten (Allgäu) main train station, with connections from Munich, Stuttgart, Augsburg, Lindau, among others. By car via the A 7 (Kempten exit); parking is available in surrounding multi-story car parks (Forum Allgäu) for a fee.

Notes

Cash payment on festival grounds (ATM in the adjacent Forum Allgäu). Persons under 14 only accompanied by a parent/guardian; youths aged 14-18 admitted until midnight. Bringing your own food and drinks, umbrellas, large bags, and professional cameras is not permitted.

Saltatio Mortis on Friday

On Friday, July 24th, 2026, Saltatio Mortis will perform at the Kempten Open Air as part of their current »Burgentour – Staub und Schatten« tour. The Karlsruhe-based band, a staple in medieval rock for over 25 years, known for their bagpipe riffs and danceable rock anthems, is one of the most successful acts in the genre.
