Kirwa Tradition in the Upper Palatinate
The Kirchweih, affectionately called "Kirwa" in the Upper Palatinate, is one of the most important festivals of the village year. In Hohenburg, the Kirwaleit Hohenburg e.V. organizes the festival, thereby upholding a vibrant piece of Upper Palatinate folk culture.
Festival on the Town Hall Forecourt
The venue for the Kirchweih is the town hall forecourt in the center of Hohenburg. Here, the Kirwa couples and the village community gather to celebrate together. Traditional customs such as setting up and dancing around the Kirwa tree, dancing, brass music, and hearty catering characterize the weekend.
