Traditional Middle Franconian Kirchweih in the municipality of Dietersheim in the NEA district
In the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, Kirchweihen have centuries-old roots. The Kirchweih Dietersheim is one of these central events, celebrated in the municipality of Dietersheim in western Middle Franconia. It dates back to the consecration of the local church – a religious festival that has always been associated with secular folk festivals, dancing, beer, and communal celebration in Franconia.
For five days, the town center transforms into a festival ground: A festival tent forms the centerpiece, where Franconian brass bands play, dance evenings are organized, and the festival gathering meets for beer, bratwurst, and Schäuferla. In front of the tent, there is a small market, carousels, and sometimes a parade of local clubs.
Kirchweih Dietersheim is part of the Kirchweih Overview published annually by the NEA district: In 2026, Walddachsbach (September 17–21), Dottenheim (September 25–27), Altheim, and Dietersheim (October 22–26) follow seamlessly. This means the Aischgrund experiences a dense succession of Franconian Kirchweihen between September and October – a typical phenomenon that makes the region the peak season for rural customs.
Dietersheim is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Neustadt an der Aisch in the NEA district (Bavaria). The small municipality belongs to the region between Steigerwald and Aischtal, an area where carp farming, wine, and brewing have been at home for centuries. The Kirchweih is one of the most important communal dates of the autumn here.
Anyone visiting a Franconian Kirchweih experiences not only beer and brass music but also a piece of social history: the meeting of generations, traditional costumes, and clubs, toasting together in the festival tent, and dancing in the evening. Dietersheim offers this charm in its rural variant – without tourist hustle and bustle, but with genuine regional depth.
The 2026 edition of Kirchweih Dietersheim will take place from Thursday, October 22, to Monday, October 26, 2026, in the town center. It is traditionally organized by the municipality of Dietersheim and local clubs, who jointly manage the festival tent and the supporting program.
The Kirchweih is part of the dense Kerwa season in the NEA district – between Walddachsbach (Sep 17–21), Dottenheim (Sep 25–27), and the parallel Kirchweih in Altheim. Tradition, traditional costumes, and dancing characterize this Franconian festival, which brings together residents and guests in the festival tent for five days.
The exact program and stage times will be published by the municipality of Dietersheim and local clubs before the Kirchweih.
Admission to the festival tent is usually free (possibly a small fee for dance evenings). Food and drinks at usual festival prices.
Dietersheim can be reached via the A3 (Würzburg–Nuremberg, exit Schlüsselfeld or Pommersfelden) and then via federal roads towards Neustadt an der Aisch. By train: nearest major train stations are Neustadt an der Aisch or Markt Bibart, followed by bus or taxi.
