Traditional Franconian Kirchweih (church consecration festival) for six days in early September in the Aischgrund region
Langenfeld is a municipality in the district of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim, located in the southern Steigerwald foothills in the valley of the Ehebach river. With around 1000 inhabitants spread over 7 km², Langenfeld is one of the classic Franconian Aischgrund communities situated between Neustadt an der Aisch and Scheinfeld. Here, the Ortsburschen and Ortsmadli (local young men and women) celebrate their traditional Kerwa (church consecration festival) every year in early September, which ranks among the largest in the NEA district.
As tradition dictates, the Kerwa opens with the beer tapping ceremony by the mayor. Over the following days, classics of Franconian festival culture unfold: Schlachtschüssel (a traditional pork dish), Franconian specialties, Kerwawürste (festival sausages), coffee, and homemade cakes. In the evenings, people dance to DJ sets and live bands – the Kerwa is popular with both older generations and the village youth.
The Kerwa is organized by the Ortsburschen and Ortsmadli Langenfeld, with support from local clubs and the community. They are responsible for setting up and dismantling, organizing the program, and keeping the tradition alive throughout the year. A dedicated children's program ensures that even the youngest festival guests have a great time – a pure family-friendly Kerwa.
The Kerwa is listed on the official Kirchweih overview of the Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim district. Dates from September 3rd to 8th, 2026 – six days of festivities in the town center. The festival is part of the rich Kirchweih landscape of the Aischgrund and Steigerwald regions.
