One of the most traditional Kärwa in the Ansbach region
The Burker Kirchweih is one of the best-attended village Kärwa in the Ansbach district (Middle Franconia, Bavaria). The municipality of Burk, with its districts, is located between Dinkelsbühl and Feuchtwangen, near the Romantic Road. The historic church square with the Protestant St. Maria Church forms the geographical and social center of the festival.
The Kerwa-Buam and their traditions
As everywhere in Middle Franconia, the 'Kerwa-Buam' play a central role: they fetch the tree from the forest, decorate it, erect it, and are responsible for the festival. A special feature in Burk is the cannon shots fired on Thursday evening to open the event — a loud custom that has been revived in many Franconian villages in recent decades.
What's on offer
- Schlachtschüsselessen: traditional pork dish served from 11 AM on Thursday
- Raising of the tree: by the Kerwa-Buam on Thursday afternoon
- Cannon shots and beer tapping: Thursday evening with the mayor
- Sunday opening for shopping: with Weißwurstfrühstück, CVJM coffee afternoon, performances by kindergarten children, and family program
- Frühschoppen on Monday: Weißwurstfrühstück and lunch from 11:30 AM
- Geldbeutelwäsche on Tuesday: humorous closing day with music and bratwurst
Around Burk
Anyone wishing to combine their Kärwa visit with an excursion will find the medieval imperial city of Dinkelsbühl (approx. 10 km) and the old town of Feuchtwangen (5 km) just around the corner. Both are among the most beautiful stops on the Romantic Road.
