A summery, colourful town festival with a market, music, and Sunday shopping
On 12 and 13 July 2026, Osterburken celebrates its newly designed Kiliani-Sommer. For centuries, the Kiliani Market was one of the most important annual markets in northern Baden — named after Saint Kilian, the Apostle to the Franks, whose feast day is on 8 July. In recent years, the town has modernised the format: the pure market has become a two-day town festival with market stalls, live music, family activities, and a Sunday shopping day — the Kiliani-Sommer.
Traders, direct marketers, and craftspeople set up their stalls throughout the city centre. You'll find regional specialities from the Neckar-Odenwald district — from Baden wines to asparagus and strawberries (depending on the season) to homemade jams and cheeses. In addition, there is arts and crafts, jewellery, pottery, and decorations. The variety of stalls makes strolling through the old town a small discovery walk.
The stages are hosted by the local clubs: music clubs from Osterburken and the surrounding communities in the Bauland region perform, local bands, choirs, and dance groups provide a varied programme. The atmosphere is family-friendly — you'll meet locals celebrating their summer week and guests from Bauland, Odenwald, and the Tauber region.
For children, there is a programme with carousels, a climbing wall, face painting, and craft stations. A highlight for shopping enthusiasts: on Sunday, 13 July, there is a Sunday shopping day in Osterburken — the retail shops in the city centre open their doors, allowing you to combine your festival visit with shopping.
Osterburken, with just under 6,600 inhabitants, is located in the northeastern Neckar-Odenwald district, on the border with Bavaria. The town is famous for its Roman Museum and the adjacent UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes' — Osterburken was an important Roman fort location. The well-preserved fort, the numerus fort, and the Limes structures can be visited. Those who visit the Kiliani-Sommer can ideally combine their stay with a cultural-historical exploration.
The Kiliani-Sommer 2026 in Osterburken once again offers two days of market atmosphere and club culture. Market stalls with regional products, several stages with music clubs and bands, a family programme with a children's carousel and climbing wall. Sunday features a Sunday shopping day in the city centre.
