9th edition of the intercultural neighbourhood festival around Lynarstraße and Lutherplatz in Spandau
Spandauer Neustadt is located north of Spandau's Old Town and west of the centre of Spandau. Characterised by Wilhelminian-era buildings and post-war housing blocks, the neighbourhood is densely populated and is one of the most migrant-influenced districts in the borough. For years, the Spandauer Neustadt Neighbourhood Management has been working to make neighbourhood structures visible and to promote encounters between communities. The annual Kiezfest is the largest and most visible format for this.
The 9th edition will take place in 2026 – the format has firmly established itself in Spandau's event calendar since its premiere. For two days, the festival area will extend along Lynarstraße between Schönwalder Straße and Lutherplatz, one of the central axes in the neighbourhood. On both days, the programme runs from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM; the official opening is on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM. The organiser is the Islamic Community Spandau e.V., located at Lynarstraße 17, an established religious community that organises the festival with the Neighbourhood Management and several other local stakeholders.
Performances by local musicians, children's choirs, dance groups, and folklore ensembles alternate on stage. A children's olympiad with various stations, creative hands-on activities (crafts, face painting, bouncy castle) are spread across the festival grounds. Numerous stalls offer food from the neighbourhood – Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish, Asian, and German cuisine – as well as handicrafts, books, and information materials from social organisations. Admission is free.
The Kiezfest is embedded in the continuous neighbourhood work of the Neighbourhood Management and the Islamic Community Spandau e.V. It is explicitly designed as an encounter format: families from the neighbourhood, clubs and initiatives, religious communities, and municipal actors meet on one street for a weekend. The Spandau district and the district office support the format financially and logistically.
The 9th edition in 2026 continues the proven concept: two festival days on Lynarstraße, from ten in the morning to seven in the evening. On Saturday morning, the stalls are set up, the children's programme starts at 10 AM, and at 2 PM is the official festival opening with welcomes from the organisers, Neighbourhood Management, and district office. Folklore ensembles, dance groups, local bands, and children's choirs alternate on stage.
On Sunday, the focus is on family activities: a children's olympiad with several stations, craft and hands-on activities, a bouncy castle, and face painting. Both days continuously: food from the neighbourhood with a culinary focus on Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish, and Asian cuisine, handicraft stalls, and information stands from social organisations.
