Neighbourhood festival on Malchower See

The Kiezfest im Ostseeviertel has been a firm fixture of the Lichtenberg summer for over a decade. The organiser is the Hohenschönhausen Nord district coordination, supported by the Verein für aktive Vielfalt (VaV e.V.). The venue is the festival meadow directly on Malchower See in the Neu-Hohenschönhausen district.

What awaits you

On an afternoon in late spring or summer (previous years: end of June / beginning of July), the festival meadow transforms into a lively neighbourhood meeting point:

• Stage programme: Dance groups from the neighbourhood, local music groups, performances (in the past, among others, Duo Atemlos, Justin McConville, T-Mind)
• Children's programme: Bouncy castle, clowns, movement course, craft activities
• Hands-on and information stands: Clubs, social organisations, housing associations (HOWOGE), sports and educational offerings
• Food: Savoury and sweet specialities from stallholders
• Meeting point: Conversation between residents, initiatives and politicians

A festival with a neighbourhood function

The Kiezfest has a distinctly social work character – it brings together players from neighbourhood management, housing associations, sports clubs, and social organisations with residents for discussions. Over the years, the format has established itself as a tool for urban development in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: The focus is less on spectacular staging and more on low-threshold interaction in a district with a mixed population.

Past editions

Previous editions took place, for example, on 1 July 2022 (14th edition), 30 June 2023 (15th edition), 28 June 2024 (16th edition, 3–8 p.m.). In 2025, the format was held under the title “Sommerlaune in Neu-Wartenberg” at Hagenower Ring 47 – the district coordination annually adapts the location and date to neighbourhood needs. For 2026, a return to the Ostseeviertel is planned; the exact date will be announced by the Lichtenberg district office before the season.
