A Viking Village by the Lake — Right in the Middle of Berlin
The Strandbad Orankesee in Alt-Hohenschönhausen is one of Berlin's few classic lakeside lidos — a small lake with a sandy beach, swimming facilities, and meadows, nestled in a quiet residential area in the Lichtenberg district. Once a year, on the last weekend of April, the lido becomes a Viking village: authentic tent camps, campfires, Viking boats on the beach, and several craft stalls along the promenade.

Cocolorus Diaboli — The Organizer
Cocolorus Diaboli is one of Germany's largest agencies for medieval and Viking festivals, organizing over 30 markets nationwide each year. The performers are experienced reenactors — the aim is historical accuracy, not fantasy costumes. It premiered in Berlin in 2025; the festival runs for its 2nd edition in 2026.
Alt-Hohenschönhausen as a District
Alt-Hohenschönhausen is located in the Lichtenberg district in northeastern Berlin. The area is quiet, interspersed with prefabricated housing and small single-family home settlements, but boasts three unusual gems: Obersee, Orankesee, and Hohenschönhausen Castle. Strandbad Orankesee is one of Berlin's most accessible and idyllic lidos — the perfect backdrop for a Viking festival that focuses on water, sand, and fire.
