Late summer day at the lido with live music, street theatre, acrobatics, and a big children's festival
In the heart of the Lichtenberg borough, on the northern edge of the Alt-Hohenschönhausen district, lies the Orankesee – a shallow lake, about 5 hectares in size, formed during the Vistulian glaciation. The Orankesee Lido was established in the 1920s and still offers a 250-meter sandy beach today. In summer, it's one of Berlin's quieter, more family-friendly swimming lakes, far from the hustle and bustle of Wannsee or Müggelsee.
Once a year, the Förderverein Obersee & Orankesee e.V. transforms the lido into a late summer festival ground. The 2026 programme includes:
Doors open at 1 PM, programme starts at 2 PM, programme ends at 10 PM.
The festival has existed since 2005 as a voluntarily organised event by the Förderverein Obersee & Orankesee. Around 80 volunteers help with setup, catering, technical aspects, ticketing, and the children's programme. Revenue from admission and refreshments finances the maintenance and event work around the two Lichtenberg lakes – Orankesee and Obersee.
The Lichtenberg borough in eastern Berlin is the most populous after Pankow and is one of the few Berlin boroughs with a distinct mix of Plattenbau (prefabricated housing), villas, and lakes. Alt-Hohenschönhausen, the district around the Orankesee, is the historic village settlement – with an old castle ensemble, village church, and an intact villa area around the lakes. Those who want to experience Berlin off the beaten tourist track will feel at home here.
The 2026 Seenfest will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Orankesee Lido. The gates open at 1 PM, the programme starts at 2 PM and ends at 10 PM.
