80 Years of the University of Art
Founded in 1946 in the Soviet occupation zone, the Weißensee University of Art Berlin is one of Germany's oldest art universities and has been a central hub for design education in Berlin since reunification. Housed in the Pankow district, in the Weißensee locality, within the palace grounds of the former Villa Springer, the school has developed its own educational tradition: experimental, material-focused, and socially engaged.
The Rundgang – Annual Highlight
The Rundgang is the university's most important public event. For two days, all studios and workshops are open: sculpture halls, fashion studios, print workshops, wood and metal workshops, photo and film studios. Students will be present at their works, explaining, discussing – offering direct insight into a world otherwise inaccessible.
The Eight Study Programs
The Weißensee University of Art is divided into eight study programs:
- Sculpture
- Stage and Costume Design
- Painting (Class for Fine Arts)
- Fashion Design
- Product Design
- Textile and Material Design
- Visual Communication
- Master's in Art Therapy and Spatial Strategies
Each study program has its own tradition and teaching concept. During the Rundgang, all are accessible simultaneously.
