Strümpfelbacher Kelterfest — Over 50 Years of Wine Festival Tradition in the Remstal
The Strümpfelbacher Kelterfest boasts over 50 years of tradition. Since 1972, the Musikverein Frisch Auf Strümpfelbach has organized the festival in the historic Genossenschaftskelter (cooperative wine press house) dating back to 1928 — a listed building that is still used for grape processing today. The 53rd edition will take place from September 25th to 27th, 2026. Immerse yourself in an atmosphere of rare authenticity: a wine festival in a real, working press house with massive wooden beams, sandstone pillars, and the unmistakable aroma of grape must and wine.
Remstal Wines at the Forefront
The focus is on the wines of the Remstalkellerei — one of Württemberg's largest wine cooperatives with over 700 member wineries from the central Remstal valley. Here, you can taste the full spectrum of Württemberg grape varieties: Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, and fine cuvées. The wines come directly from the cellar — fresh, with a fair price-performance ratio, and the assurance of supporting regional products. The open glass (Schoppen) is the communal enjoyment of the festival.
Swabian Culinary Delights in the Press House
The gastronomic offerings are classically Swabian and renowned in the region. The association's ladies have been cooking for decades, offering Maultaschen, Saure Kuttle (sour tripe), Zwiebelrostbraten (onion roast beef), sausage salad, schnitzel with Spätzle and Schupfnudeln. Accompanied by lard bread with onions, homemade farmer's cakes, and Swabian apple fritters. Food is served continuously — you can enjoy hot meals at lunchtime and in the evening, which is not always a given at wine festivals.
Music from Musikverein Frisch Auf
The Musikverein Frisch Auf Strümpfelbach is not only the organizer but also provides the musical backbone of the festival. Their own orchestra performances are complemented by guest brass bands from the Remstal valley, as well as cover bands for the later evening hours. The program is intentionally not too loud — wine enjoyment is the priority, with dancing and conviviality as accompaniment. On Sunday mornings, there's a classic Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass band music.
Strümpfelbach, Weinstadt, and the Remstal Valley
The wine village of Strümpfelbach has been a district of Weinstadt in the Rems-Murr district since 1975. Its location between Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald, the south-facing vineyards, and the typical Remstal architecture make it a gem of Württemberg wine culture. The Kelterfest is the annual highlight — anyone wanting to experience Strümpfelbach and the Remstal valley at its most cozy should come on the fourth weekend of September.
