Tip
A concert visit can be well combined with a guided tour of the Carthusian Monastery and its famous choir stalls.
The Buxheim Carthusian Monastery
The Buxheim Carthusian Monastery in the Unterallgäu region is a former Imperial Carthusian Monastery and is considered the most significant preserved Carthusian monastery in Germany. The magnificent Baroque choir stalls are particularly famous. Today, the complex is a cultural and museum site with art treasures, guided tours, and a rich event program.
Music in Historic Rooms
Throughout the summer and autumn months, the Carthusian Monastery becomes a concert venue: the historic rooms combine special acoustics with an atmosphere of peace and concentration. The concerts range from classical and monastery concerts to choral and ensemble music.
»Raumklang – Klangraum«
Since 2014, the Leopold Mozart Centre of the University of Augsburg has been curating the concert series »Raumklang – Klangraum« – itinerant concerts and programs that make the Carthusian Monastery's space itself a sounding body. It is one of the venue's recurring cultural highlights.
Opening and Autumn Program
The 2026 season opens with concerts by the Buxheim Music Band and the choir CHORiosum. Among the firmly established program items is the annual »Mystik in Raum und Zeit« in October with the Ensemble Mystik – a vocal program that takes up the mystical tradition of the Carthusian Order.
