Show dance, Illertal Festival and Dirndl Party — three days of festivities at Erolzheim Castle
The Erolzheim Heimatfest has been organized by the Erolzheim Music Association e.V. for decades and is the social highlight of the year in the market town. The venue is the large festival grounds at Erolzheim Castle with a spacious marquee, outdoor catering, and several themed areas (beer island, cocktail bar, ice cream and dessert stand).
The program follows a proven structure. Friday evening is dedicated to the youth with the Show Dance Competition, which has been held for 35 years and attracts dance groups from all over the Upper Swabian region. Saturday evening is the highlight for brass music fans with the Illertal Festival — four music bands from the Iller Valley perform together. Sunday concludes with the exuberant Dirndl and Lederhosen Party with the live band Dorfheilige (their last show in Erolzheim).
The Show Dance Competition is a special feature. Dance groups travel from Berkheim, Dettingen, Kirchberg, Oberopfingen, and other communities along the Iller and Danube rivers. The jury evaluates the variety of figures, originality, synchronicity, and stage presence. Winners receive trophies, and the audience enjoys an evening full of acrobatic choreography.
On Saturday at 6:15 PM, the parade of music bands sets off from the town to the festival grounds. Starting at 6:30 PM, the Youth Band Dettingen–Erolzheim–Kirchberg opens the concert program. From 8:00 PM, the Music Associations Berkheim, Dettingen/Iller, Kirchberg, and Oberopfingen follow — together they present a diverse program of traditional brass music, Bohemian-Moravian pieces, and modern arrangements.
Erolzheim is located north of the Biberach district, on the Iller river, bordering Bavaria. The 16th-century castle dominates the town center and forms the historic backdrop for the festival grounds. The approximately 3,000 inhabitants are closely connected to the music association and its festivals.
The 2026 program sticks to the traditional format. Friday evening is dedicated to the youth's Show Dance Competition, Saturday evening to the grand Illertal Festival with the region's four music bands, and Sunday evening to the Dirndl and Lederhosen Party as the finale.
