Winzer stands in the historic alleys
The Straßenweinfest in Ediger traditionally takes place on the second weekend of September and marks the slow transition from summer to autumn on the Moselle. While the first grapes are being harvested on the steep slopes, vintners, locals, and guests meet in the narrow alleys of the village center to taste the wines of the past vintage and enjoy the conviviality of the Moselle autumn.
The setting is extraordinary: Ediger is considered one of the best-preserved half-timbered villages in the Middle Moselle region. Medieval town gates, the late Gothic collegiate church of St. Martin with its remarkable wall paintings, cobblestone alleys, and lovingly restored townhouses form the backdrop for the festival. The wineries from Ediger and the surrounding area present their current wines at the main stations along the festival mile.
The focus is on the wine itself—not showmanship, not big stages, but direct conversation between vintner and guest. The wines come exclusively from the Calmont slopes, whose gradients of up to 65 degrees offer unique conditions for mineral-driven Rieslings. The wine tasting is complemented by regional specialties: vintner's snacks (Winzervesper), tarte flambée, Eifel cheese, Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), and autumnal specialties.
The Straßenweinfest has become an insider tip for wine lovers who want to experience authentic Moselle life beyond the large festival tents. Those who want to enjoy wine in its original context and in a relaxed atmosphere will find the right setting here.
The Straßenweinfest 2026 in Ediger will take place on the second weekend of September. It opens on Friday evening, with the main activities running on Saturday and Sunday afternoons into the evening. The stands are distributed along the main axis of the village, making a tasting tour easily accessible on foot.
The festival will be accompanied by small musical performances at several locations, without large stages or loud amplification. The focus is on wine and conversation.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Vintner stands in the narrow half-timbered alleys of Ediger, Rieslings and Spätburgunders from the Calmont steep slopes, direct conversation with the vintner families, regional specialties and vintner's snacks, quiet wine-typical atmosphere without large stage shows, picturesque setting with the collegiate church of St. Martin and town gates.
Free admission. Wine tasting glasses and tasting tokens available at the wine stands.
Getting there: By car via the B49; parking available at the entrance to the village. By train to Bullay, then continue by bus or passenger boat.
Admission: Free. Wine tasting glasses are available at the wine stands.
Tip: Sturdy footwear recommended for the cobblestones. The visit can ideally be combined with a hike on the Calmont climbing trail or a boat trip on the Moselle.
