Three-day Schützenfest in Hanstedt and Kampen on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide
The Schützenverein Hanstedt und Umgegend was founded in 1950, in the immediate post-war period when village life in the young Federal Republic was seeking new structures. For over 75 years, the association has shaped the riflemen's tradition in the municipality of Hanstedt on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide.
Friday to Sunday form the framework of the festival. Friday opens with the King's Shoot and the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich), Saturday features the parade and the King's Ball, and Sunday concludes with Family Day, Frühschoppen, and the King's Proclamation.
A special feature of the Hanstedt festival is its joint organization with the Kampen riflemen's family. Both neighboring villages celebrate a connected Schützenfest on the same days, which enhances the festive character and underscores the close bond between the village communities.
The King's Shoot on Friday determines the new majesties of the association. In the evening, the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich) follows with a torchlight procession, traditional music, and a ceremonial honoring of the Rifle Kings – an emotional moment that gathers the association community in quiet contemplation.
Saturday brings the parade through Hanstedt with riflemen, marching bands, and guest associations, followed by the grand King's Ball in the marquee with a live band, dancing, and festive catering. Sunday is particularly aimed at families with a children's King's Shoot, carousels, a bouncy castle, Frühschoppen with brass music, and the ceremonial proclamation in the afternoon.
The 2026 edition continues the 76-year tradition of the association. The joint organization with Kampen gives the festival a special character and brings two village communities together over three shared festival days.
Hanstedt is located on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide, one of Northern Germany's most famous natural landscapes, and is easily accessible via the A7 motorway.
