About Schützenfest Hanstedt

The Schützenfest Hanstedt is the annual main event of the Schützenverein Hanstedt und Umgegend von 1950 e.V. (Riflemen's Association) and will be celebrated from Friday, July 17th to Sunday, July 19th, 2026, on the Schützenplatz Hanstedt. Three days of festivities featuring the King's Shoot, Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich), parade, King's Ball, Family Day, and Frühschoppen (morning pint) characterize the weekend in the municipality of Hanstedt on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide. The festival is organized together with the Kampen riflemen's family, which enhances the festive atmosphere and underscores the close bond between the two neighboring villages. On the festival grounds, visitors can expect a marquee with live music, carousels for children, and the classic riflemen's program. Admission to the festival grounds is free; evening dances have a small entrance fee. Food and drink include Northern German specialties and Heide region classics.

Schützenverein Hanstedt und Umgegend

The Schützenverein Hanstedt und Umgegend was founded in 1950, in the immediate post-war period when village life in the young Federal Republic was seeking new structures. For over 75 years, the association has shaped the riflemen's tradition in the municipality of Hanstedt on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide.

Three Festival Days from July 17th to 19th, 2026

Friday to Sunday form the framework of the festival. Friday opens with the King's Shoot and the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich), Saturday features the parade and the King's Ball, and Sunday concludes with Family Day, Frühschoppen, and the King's Proclamation.

Together with Kampen

A special feature of the Hanstedt festival is its joint organization with the Kampen riflemen's family. Both neighboring villages celebrate a connected Schützenfest on the same days, which enhances the festive character and underscores the close bond between the village communities.

King's Shoot and Grand Tattoo

The King's Shoot on Friday determines the new majesties of the association. In the evening, the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich) follows with a torchlight procession, traditional music, and a ceremonial honoring of the Rifle Kings – an emotional moment that gathers the association community in quiet contemplation.

Parade, King's Ball, and Family Day

Saturday brings the parade through Hanstedt with riflemen, marching bands, and guest associations, followed by the grand King's Ball in the marquee with a live band, dancing, and festive catering. Sunday is particularly aimed at families with a children's King's Shoot, carousels, a bouncy castle, Frühschoppen with brass music, and the ceremonial proclamation in the afternoon.
