Every Sunday from May to August — free open-air concerts in the bandstand
Bad Liebenwerda is the only state-recognized spa town in southern Brandenburg, located in the Elbe-Elster district between Cottbus and Dresden. Its healing springs have been commercially used since the 1920s — Bad Liebenwerda has been a recognized moorland spa resort since 1925. The Kurpark, with its old trees, well-kept paths, the healing pond, and the historic bandstand, is the heart of this spa town's identity. Every Sunday during the summer, it becomes an open concert venue.
The bandstand in the Kurpark is a typical example of early 20th-century spa town architecture: an open stage area with an acoustic shell, nestled among trees, with seating on the lawn. In front of this bandstand, on concert Sundays, guests of the spa clinic, town residents, day-trippers from Berlin and Leipzig, and families with children gather. The atmosphere is relaxed — cake from the cafeteria, a stroll before and after the concert, listening together.
The 2026 season includes 19 concerts between May 3rd and August 30th. Ensembles from the region and beyond are invited: regional brass bands and trombone choirs, big bands from Dresden and Leipzig, accordion ensembles from Saxony and the Czech Republic, choirs, salon ensembles. The tradition of Kurkonzerte is old — spa towns have entertained their guests with Sunday concerts since the 19th century. Bad Liebenwerda keeps this tradition alive. An exception is May 1st, 2026, when the spa concert season begins with a Maibaumstellen concert from 10 AM to 12 PM.
Admission to all Kurkonzerte is free. Those who wish to spend a whole day in Bad Liebenwerda can combine the concert with a visit to the Lausitz Bad (thermal spa), a walk in the Mühlbergpark, or an exploration of the historic old town. In summer, Bad Liebenwerda is a relaxing day-trip destination — and the Kurkonzerte are the regular musical highlight.
For four months, every Sunday afternoon, the bandstand of the Bad Liebenwerda Kurpark becomes a stage. Regional and national ensembles from the fields of brass music, big band jazz, accordion, and choir present their programs — to an audience of spa guests, town residents, and day-trippers.
Free admission, the event is a civic tradition of the Lower Lusatian spa town.
