Over 25 Years of Dorffest Tradition
The Dorffest Rot an der Rot is one of the most traditional village festivals in Oberschwaben. For over 25 years, the Rot an der Rot associations and the municipality have celebrated every two years on the second weekend of August with a festival that is known far beyond the village borders and attracts thousands of visitors from the Allgäu, Oberschwaben, and all of Southern Germany. In 2026, the festival will take place on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, 2026. The organizer is the Dorffest Committee of the municipality of Rot an der Rot.
Saturday — Flea Market with 300 Stalls
Festival Saturday is dedicated to the large flea market: around 300 exhibitors will offer bric-a-brac, antiques, books, collectibles, vintage fashion, and curiosities from 9:00 AM onwards. The market stretches across the central streets of Rot an der Rot and is one of the largest flea markets in the region. In parallel, there will be historical performances related to the history of the Rot an der Rot Monastery, a children's program from 1:30 PM with craft activities, and an evening music program.
Sunday — Crafts, Vintage Cars, Family
Festival Sunday is the crafts and family day. Craft demonstrations bring old professions to life:
- Pottery on the wheel
- Basket weaving with willow
- Woodturning on a wood lathe
- Blacksmithing in the mobile village forge
- Other traditional crafts depending on exhibitors
A second highlight is the vintage car exhibition with over 200 historic vehicles — all at least 35 years old. From restored VW Beetles and Mercedes-Benz classics to agricultural tractors from the 1950s. The exhibition is one of the largest vintage car gatherings in the region. Children will find their own program from 12:30 PM with puppet theater, magician shows, and hands-on activities.
Rot an der Rot — Monastery Village in Oberschwaben
Rot an der Rot (Biberach district, approx. 4,600 inhabitants) is located in southern Oberschwaben between Memmingen and Biberach, on the border with the Allgäu. The village is famous for the former Premonstratensian Imperial Abbey of Rot an der Rot — one of the most important monastery buildings in the region with a baroque monastery church, a magnificent refectory, and a large convent building. The monastic tradition shapes the village's self-image and historical identity to this day — and the Dorffest also draws on this tradition with historical performances.
Family-Friendly, Free Admission
The Dorffest is explicitly family-friendly. The affordable prices and the broad program — from bargain hunting at the flea market to admiring vintage cars — make the festival a perfect excursion destination for families. Free admission, catering provided by local associations with Oberschwaben specialties (Bratwurst, Maultaschen, fries, beer, cider, cake).
