Münsterland Carnival Parade of the Carnival Society "Fünfte Jahreszeit" through the village centre on the Sunday before Weiberfastnacht
The Münsterland is not traditionally a core carnival region — the strongholds are further south, in Cologne and the Rhineland. However, Fastnacht is still celebrated exuberantly in some Münsterland communities — and Everswinkel in the Warendorf district is one of them. Every year on the Sunday before Weiberfastnacht, the Everswinkel Carnival Society "Fünfte Jahreszeit" e.V. organises the Carnival Parade through the village centre — the entire community dresses up, the streets are full of sweets and Kamelle (candies), and spectators in colourful costumes line the roadside.
The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The parade traditionally starts at 2:11 PM — a time typical in carnival (11 being the sacred number of fools). The procession moves through the entire village centre until the late afternoon. Afterwards, the carnival celebration continues in the car park on Bergstraße — with a convivial atmosphere until approximately 11:30 PM.
In 2026, the route leads through the following streets:
Vitusstraße will be closed to traffic until Monday, February 16, 2026, at 8:00 AM. Absolute parking ban applies along the parade route — ignoring it risks towing.
The parade features floats from the local carnival society, walking groups, marching bands, dance troupes, and visiting carnival clubs from the surrounding area. Kamelle (sweets), Strüßjer (bouquets), and small chocolates rain down on the spectators — families position children with bags at the roadside to collect the bounty. Those who come in costume are immediately part of the fun — those who come "normally" stand out in the Münsterland Sunday.
Everswinkel is a municipality with around 9,500 inhabitants in the southern Warendorf district, southeast of Münster, in the heart of the Münsterland. The community is characterised by agriculture and Catholicism — carnival here is a means of unity in late winter, a welcome break between the long winter months and the start of spring fieldwork. Anyone wanting to experience Münsterland rural life in its convivial form will find it at the carnival parade.
The 2026 edition starts punctually at 2:11 PM at Boschweg and follows a circuit through the entire village centre of Everswinkel. Floats, walking groups, marching bands, and dance troupes parade through the main streets — Kamelle and Strüßjer fly into children's hands. Afterwards, the carnival celebration continues in the car park on Bergstraße until approx. 11:30 PM.
Closures: Vitusstraße until Mon, Feb 16, 8:00 AM; Bergstraße between Warendorfer Str. and Johann-Bernhard-Str. until approx. 11:30 PM.
Free admission. Donations to the carnival society are recommended.
By car: A1 exit Hamm/Bockum-Hövel or A2 exit Hamm, then B475 towards Sendenhorst and continue to Everswinkel. Parking is available on the outskirts of the village centre — parking is prohibited on the parade streets (towing possible). By public transport: Bus from Münster Hbf or Warendorf to Everswinkel.
Free admission. Donations to the carnival society are recommended (collection boxes along the route). Food and drinks are available from stalls along the route and at the closing celebration on Bergstraße.
Be at the roadside by 1:30 PM at the latest to secure a good spot with Kamelle accessibility. Best spots: on Magnusplatz in front of the town hall and on Vitusstraße. Don't forget a bag or pouch for Kamelle.
