Traditional Schützenfest of the BSV Freckenhorst — one of the twelve Warendorf Schützenfeste
When high summer arrives in the Münsterland, Freckenhorst celebrates its Schützenfest. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Bürgerschützen-Verein Freckenhorst e.V. (BSV) will gather on the Stiftsmarkt and in the festival tent — continuing a tradition that is one of the twelve historical Schützenfeste in the Warendorf municipal area.
The BSV is a traditional club whose activities are not limited to its own Schützenfest — but also include numerous supra-regional appearances, parades, and social events throughout the year. The members preserve the marksmen's tradition, customs, and club life between the Stift (collegiate church), Stiftsmarkt, and festival tent.
The reigning royal court 2025/2026 — Majesties Michael and Frederike Gronewäller — traditionally invites you to the King's Ball in the run-up to the Schützenfest (Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 8 p.m. in the hall of the Stiftshof Dühlmann).
The district of Freckenhorst (approx. 7,000 inhabitants) belongs to the town of Warendorf, the district town of the Warendorf district in the eastern Münsterland (North Rhine-Westphalia). Freckenhorst is primarily known for the Stiftskirche St. Bonifatius, an important Romanesque building from the 11th century, and for the former Imperial Abbey of Freckenhorst. The Stiftsmarkt in front of the church forms the historical center of the town.
Every year, twelve historical Schützenfeste take place in the Warendorf municipal area — spread across the individual districts (city center, Freckenhorst, Hoetmar, Milte, Müssingen, Velsen, etc.). Each festival maintains its own rituals, its own royal dynasties, and its own festival concept. The Freckenhorst Schützenfest stands out due to its close connection to the Stift and the historical substance of the town.
The traditional daily schedule of the Freckenhorst Schützenfest follows a proven rhythm: from the early reveille to the muster at the Stiftsmarkt, the king's shooting for the young marksmen, the crowning of the new royal couple, and the grand ball with polonaise.
Festival tent admission according to the organizer. Muster and procession are freely accessible.
By car via the B475 (Münster–Warendorf) or L851. Parking around the Schützenfest grounds and in the town center.

Those who want to experience the traditional start should come for the reveille at 5 a.m. or the muster at 8:35 a.m. — the most emotional moments of a Schützenfest. The afternoon procession is a photo highlight.
