26th Advent Market with first time at the Großer Markt — supported by over 20 Rheinberg clubs
For 25 years, the Rheinberg Advent Market took place in the inner courtyard of the Protestant church — an intimate, slightly mysterious setting that constituted the charm of the festival. In 2026, the market is moving for the first time: The 26th edition will take place at the Großer Markt in the middle of Rheinberg's city center — a step out of seclusion into the cityscape. The organizer is Spektakel Rheinberg e.V., a cultural association that hosts other city events.
What makes the Rheinberg Advent Market special: It is not an event for showmen, but a club-supported market. Over 20 local clubs contribute their stalls, their gastronomic offerings, and their commitment — from sports clubs and aid organizations to cultural initiatives. The range of stalls includes Christmas crafts (candles, carvings, jewelry), club stalls with homemade specialties, and classic market gastronomy (bratwurst, potato pancakes, mulled wine, punch).
Rheinberg is a small medium-sized town in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the left Lower Rhine. The historic city center with the Großer Markt, the Underberg distillery, and the preserved city fortifications provide the atmospheric setting for the Advent market. The move from the church courtyard to the Großer Markt is intended to give the market additional visibility and quality of stay — a step with which Spektakel e.V. aims to continue its success story.
The 26th edition of the Advent Market marks a turning point: the move from the inner courtyard of the Protestant church to the Großer Markt is the biggest format change since its inception in 2000. The goal is greater visibility, enhanced quality of stay, and an environment that also works in the Sunday city center (Sunday shopping). Over 20 Rheinberg clubs form the backbone of the stalls.
Free admission. Purchases and food at the stalls are subject to charge. Proceeds benefit the participating clubs.
Rheinberg is accessible by NordWestBahn (RB31 Xanten–Duisburg). A 10-minute walk from Rheinberg station to the Großer Markt. By car via the A57 (Rheinberg exit). Parking available in the city center.
Free admission. Food and purchases at the club stalls are subject to charge — the proceeds benefit the participating clubs.
Sunday shopping from midday is the busiest time — those who want to experience the market more relaxed should come on Saturday in the early evening.
