A free open-air festival in Rheinberg's city park by the Spanischer Vallan – 2026 features a one-day "Techno im Park" rave (Mini-KPiP).
The KPiP Festival is a free, open-air event (admission is free, with voluntary hat contributions for the artists) held in Rheinberg City Park around the historic Spanischer Vallan—a medieval tower that gives the area its name. It was founded in 2022 by Manuela Cengiz Bechert and Renan Cengiz, who call themselves "the Vallanisten"; the organizer is KulturVallanisten e.V. In 2023, the festival received the Rheinberg Heimatpreis.
In 2026, the festival will be held in a scaled-down format due to time and capacity constraints: instead of the three-day program, there will be a one-day open-air rave, "Techno im Park," in the city park on Saturday, July 11, 2026. From 11 AM to 2 AM, nine DJ acts will take to the decks, ranging from house and melodic sounds to harder, driving beats for the late hours. Admission is free, and food and drinks will be available on-site. The volunteer team opted for a smaller scale because there was not enough time to secure funding and logistics for a full three-day festival this year.
From 2022 to 2025, the KPiP Festival was structured as a three-day program: "Techno im Park" (Friday, electronic music), "Komm, Pogo im Park!" (Saturday, punk, rock, and heavy guitars), and "Komm-ma-runter" (Sunday, singer-songwriters, acoustic sets, and family programming). The fourth edition took place from June 13 to 15, 2025, in the city park around the Spanischer Vallan and attracted around 6,500 visitors (2025, the large edition).
The Spanischer Vallan is a medieval tower in the Rheinberg city park, a remnant of the town's historic fortifications; its name refers to the Spanish occupation of the city in the 16th and 17th centuries. Rheinberg is a town in the Wesel district on the Lower Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, KulturVallanisten e.V. invites you to "Techno im Park" in the Rheinberg city park around the Spanischer Vallan, running from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. – a one-day open-air rave with free admission.
A smaller scale due to time constraints. For four consecutive years, the Vallanisten hosted the three-day KPiP Festival in the city park, most recently in June 2025. In 2026, only the one-day techno event will take place at the same location. The reason lies in the volunteer nature of the organization: there simply wasn't enough time this year for the complex grant acquisition and logistics required for a three-day festival.
Manuela Cengiz Bechert, curator, artistic director, and chairwoman of KulturVallanisten e.V., says: "It makes me sad that we are only celebrating for one day this year and couldn't find the time for a full three-day festival. But that is exactly why I am looking forward to this one day even more – I want my feet to be burning by Saturday night, and I hope many people will come to celebrate the cultural heritage of techno with us."
