Schwentinental — a young town with an old festival calendar
Schwentinental is a comparatively young town in the Plön district: in 2008, the communities of Klausdorf and Raisdorf were merged into the new town. With around 13,500 inhabitants, Schwentinental is now the largest municipality in the Plön district — located directly in the commuter belt of Kiel and part of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The annual Schwentinental Town Festival on the festival grounds on Preetzer Chaussee is the central civic event of the town. For three days, clubs, bands, volunteers, and the town administration work together to put on a program that appeals equally to families, seniors, and young people.
Three days, three focal points
The town festival follows a proven three-day structure:
- Friday with children's and youth program — bouncy castles, game stations, hands-on workshops, small stage performances
- Saturday with musical performances by numerous artists and bands from the region — main stage, food stalls, festival atmosphere into the evening hours
- Sunday with an honorary citizens' concert and a joint picnic as a conscious conclusion — a gesture of recognition for the town's volunteers
Festival grounds on Preetzer Chaussee
The festival grounds on Preetzer Chaussee are Schwentinental's central event area. Well connected, within walking distance of the town center, and equipped with enough space for the stage, amusement area, and food stalls. The festival grounds also include an adjacent parking area, which is partially closed off during the town festival.
Embedded in the anniversary year
In the town's anniversary year — Schwentinental celebrates various dates from its municipal history — the 2026 town festival will gain additional significance. The town administration promises an expanded program and special activities to mark the anniversary.
