Klein Offenseth-Sparrieshoop is a community of just under 3,000 inhabitants in the Pinneberg district, Schleswig-Holstein, known for its tree nurseries and tulip blooms. In the centre of the village on Friesenring, the Karfunkel Kulturverein e.V. has been running a vibrant cultural programme at the Gemeindezentrum Diekendeel (Rosenstraße 56) for years. The concept: small stage, good acoustics, personal atmosphere, a new event every four to six weeks.
Diversity over genre limitations
Karfunkel deliberately avoids focusing on a single genre. The annual programme ranges from:
- Folk and World Music (Irish Evening, singer-songwriters)
- 60s/70s cover bands like SIXTY-5
- Puppet theatre for children (Lille Kartofler, Mensch Puppe)
- Readings in partnership with Buchhandlung Heymann
- Sing-along concerts with Sören Schröder
- Christmas sing-alongs (“Singen mit Karfunkel” - Singing with Karfunkel)
- Multivision shows and lecture evenings
The selection follows the taste of the association members and a loyal regular audience — many events sell out weeks in advance.
Karfunkel in the regional context
In the rural Pinneberg district, Karfunkel is an important stage for the independent arts scene. While Pinneberg city, Elmshorn, and Uetersen have larger cultural centres, Karfunkel serves the surrounding area with a curated programme. The association operates on a voluntary basis, is financed by ticket sales and membership fees, and uses the Diekendeel community centre as its home stage.

The Karfunkel Cultural Association is releasing the 2026 programme in two halves. Several highlights from the first half of the year are already confirmed, many of them already sold out — proof that the regular audience secures tickets as soon as they are announced.

- 10 April 2026, 7:30 PM — Irish Evening with Declan O'Connell: Traditional Songs from Ireland (SOLD OUT)
- 12 April 2026 — Puppet theatre “Dornröschen” (Sleeping Beauty) with Lille Kartofler (ages 4+)
- Autumn/Winter 2026 — further concerts, book readings, and the traditional Christmas sing-along “Singen mit Karfunkel”

Getting there
By car via the B431 (Hamburg–Elmshorn). Train station Tornesch or Elmshorn (S3 from Hamburg), then take a bus or taxi to Sparrieshoop. Free parking available at the community centre.
Tickets
Advance sales via the Karfunkel website or directly from the association. Typical prices €15–€25, sing-along concerts and children's theatre often cheaper.
