Village festival in the Westhavelland on the edge of the Star Park
With around 1,000 inhabitants, Stechow-Ferchesar is one of the smaller communities in the Landkreis Havelland district. Its geographical peculiarity: it lies in the middle of the Westhavelland Nature Park and the Westhavelland Star Park, designated in 2014, the first certified star park in Germany. Here, the night sky is so dark that the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye — an exception in densely populated Central Europe.
The Sommerfest is traditionally celebrated at the end of July or the beginning of August. In 2026, the community's official event calendar lists Saturday, August 1, 2026. Venue: Stechow-Ferchesar festival grounds. Organizers: Municipality of Stechow-Ferchesar in cooperation with associations, the fire department, and the church community.
The Sommerfest is not a large-scale event — and that's precisely its strength. You'll find a typical Brandenburg village festival with a stage program (local dance groups, music clubs, schoolchildren), games and craft activities for children, classic refreshments with bratwurst and homemade cakes, and a relaxed wind-down into the evening. The fire department sets up stalls, and the church community organizes small services.
The district of Ferchesar was the summer and working place of Christa Wolf and her husband Gerhard Wolf for decades — the writer penned several of her works here. Even today, the Westhavelland attracts artists and those seeking tranquility. Those who combine the Sommerfest with an excursion can explore the Hohennauener See lake, the village of Ferchesar itself, and the Star Park.
The Sommerfest Stechow-Ferchesar is representative of the unspectacular but vibrant festival culture in rural Brandenburg. This is not a city marketing concept — the festival has been functioning for generations because the village community supports it. Anyone looking for authentic rural Brandenburg will find it here.
Detailed program will be published in summer 2026 via the Stechow-Ferchesar municipality.
The specific detailed program for 2026 will be communicated shortly before the festival via the official municipal website stechow-ferchesar.info.
By car: A10 Berliner Ring, exit Friesack, then B5 towards Rathenow, continue via country roads to Stechow-Ferchesar (approx. 1:15 h from Berlin). By train: RE2 to Rathenow or Wustermark, then bus or taxi.
Free admission. Food and drinks at village festival prices.
If the sky remains clear after the festival ends, a look at the starry sky is worthwhile — the Westhavelland is Germany's first Star Park, and you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye here.
