Autumn Fair in the Center of Westerkappeln

The Kappelner Kirmes is one of the traditional folk festivals (Volksfeste) in the Steinfurt district. For three days, the central church square of Westerkappeln transforms into a compact funfair — with rides, food stalls, and a charming flea market on Monday. Three days of Kirmes from September 12th to 14th, 2026:

• Saturday, Sept. 12th: from approx. 3:00 PM to approx. 10:00 PM
• Sunday, Sept. 13th: from approx. 3:00 PM to approx. 10:00 PM
• Monday, Sept. 14th: from 10:00 AM to approx. 10:00 PM — with the popular flea market for children and school pupils

The Rides

The municipal festival committee attracts a regular group of showmen with classic and modern rides:

• Break-Dancer — the legendary rotation carousel, Westerkappeln's landmark carousel for decades
• Music Express — a roller coaster ride with loud music and fast acceleration
• Bumper Cars (Autoscooter)
• Children's Carousel and smaller game stalls for the little ones
• Shooting galleries, lottery stalls, candy floss stands

Food and Drink Stalls

Classic fair food: Bratwurst, French fries, potato pancakes with apple sauce, crêpes, cotton candy, candied almonds, accompanied by beer, mulled wine (often the season starts for the first glasses in September), and non-alcoholic drinks. Standing beer stalls and covered beer tent areas for adults.

Monday — Children's and School Pupil Flea Market

The hallmark of the Kappelner Kirmes is the flea market on Monday: children and school pupils sell toys, books, comics, clothes, and other items that are taking up space at home. Parents accompany and help, and the proceeds go to the children. The rides continue to operate alongside — a very family-friendly atmosphere on the festival Monday.

Westerkappeln in the Northern Münsterland

Westerkappeln is a rural municipality with around 11,000 inhabitants in the northwestern Steinfurt district, on the border with Lower Saxony and north of Osnabrück. The central town center with its historic church square and pedestrian zone forms the natural setting for the Kirmes — manageable, walkable, cozy.
