A Beach Arena for the 2026 Football World Cup

The FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be accompanied on Usedom Island with a unique public viewing format. From June 11 to July 16, 2026, the event beach at the Heringsdorf pier will become a large open-air football arena. A 30 m² LED video wall — the same technology as used in the summer cinema — will broadcast all matches live, complemented by a 30-meter sound system for a concert-like audio experience.

Arena with a Beach Backdrop

The capacity is for up to 2,200 fans. Seating on grandstands, wooden benches, and classic beach chairs offers various comfort levels. The open location directly on the water, with the historic pier in the background, makes the format unmistakable — sand, Baltic Sea, seagulls, and football.

Opening with Mexico vs. South Africa

The event kicks off on June 11, 2026, at 9:00 PM with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. All of Germany's matches and all other World Cup encounters will be broadcast subsequently — group stage, knockout matches, semi-finals, and the final on July 19, 2026 (the World Cup will be followed on the event beach until July 16; the final will likely be shown on an additional date).

Accompanying Program with Experts

Before and after the matches, as well as during halftime, a diverse accompanying program will shape the event beach:

  • Live moderation directly from the beach arena
  • Expert talks with former professional players and coaches such as Torsten Mattuschka (Union Berlin), Thomas Helmer (Bayern, Hertha), and Friedhelm Funkel (multiple Bundesliga coach)
  • Live music and DJ sets before and after matches
  • Interactive activities for families and children

Free Admission

One of the most remarkable features: Admission to all events and matches is free. Kaiserbäder Tourismus Service GmbH finances the public viewing as a tourist highlight of the season. Food trucks, drink stands, and a beach bar offer culinary provisions — arriving early is recommended, as the arena fills up quickly during German matches.

Connected to the Kaiserbäder

Heringsdorf is one of the three Kaiserbäder (Imperial Spas) on Usedom Island (along with Ahlbeck and Bansin) in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The event series is part of a comprehensive summer program for 2026 taking place in Heringsdorf, Bansin, and Ahlbeck, adding contemporary mass-participation formats to the traditional spa resort image — a tourist addition to the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with major sporting events.
